Mercedes E320 CDI

Does anyone know the performance specs of this car? It was either a 2004 or 2005 (brand new) and I just barely killed it from a stop light. Actually, he got a good jump (which I thought was strange for a diesel), but I pulled on him and passed him before we reached 50.

Just curious...

Perhaps this can explain what happened:

Net Power 201 hp @ 4,200 rpm
Net Torque 369 lb-ft @ 1,800- 2,600 rpm

I already responded to this on the "other" site...but just in case...

Funny you should ask this question...I just got home from the "I Love Mercedes Driving Tour".

This event let you drive 12 cars...

E320 CDI (6.6)
E320 4-Matic (7.1)
S430 RW & 4-Matic (6.9)
S500 4-Matic (6.1)
E500 4-Matic (5.9)

CLK 320 Coupe & Cabriolet (7.4/8.0)
CLK 500 Coupe & Cabriolet (5.7/6.0)
SLK 350 Roadster (5.6)
SLK 500 Roadster (6.1)

And ride in the ML-500 & G-500 with a professional driver through an off-road event...where in one of the obstacles, you get suspended on 2 wheels.

I personally rode in the G-500 & got to test out 5 cars in 2 seperate autocross course...that included areas where you could test out 0-60...60-0 and wet pavement acceleration.

I've arranged them from most fun to least fun to drive.

E500 4-Matic (this thing bites corners like crazy...I never knew 4-wheel drive could be soo much fun)
CLK500 (this WOULD of been GREAT *IF* I never caught up the the slower SL500 driver in front of me half way through the course...grrr...asian women)
E320 CDI (The torque was amazing. From a stop this thing rockets right back to speed)
CLK320 (Hmmm...bleh)
S430 (RW) (This ride actually scared me. This was RW-drive and the heaviest of the bunch. If I was a rockstar that had to run away from Paparazzi's...this car would NOT be my choice.)

Suprisingly (although I didn't drive it since the lines were too long)the SLK350 was the fastest car in the bunch (0-60 in 5.6), with the CLK500 being a close 2nd.

While in line, you cold read stats for the car you were going to drive, as well as 0-60 times & pricing with options. The CDI may not have the HP #'s as our TLS...but I do know one thing for certain...as a stop light racer, the CDI is no joke. If he was really trying, I'm almost certain he could beat you from the light.

BTW...In the end, they give you this fancy gift bag...Did this event change my views on Mercedes?...DEFINITELY

Not only is the E320CDI fast, it gets 40mpg on the highway!!
The only time the diesel makes the diesel noise, is when it's cold and under light throttle.
During cruise on the highway, you can't tell it's a diesel. It's very quiet. The new high pressure fuel rail diesels are some engines. The E320CDI beats the gas version very easily. And just trumps it on fuel mileage. Once the US gets set on the new 2006 diesel fuel regs, and gets the sulfar out of our diesel fuel, we'll see more diesels come over here. BMW has an AWESOME turbo diesel in Europe. You should see the specs on that.

Edgalang, how much did the MB Driving Experience set you back? Sounds like a load of fun.

How was the S500???

No problem guys! I want to get my hands on that CDI! I drove a C240 CDI wagon while on business in Heidelberg Germany. Got that puupy up to 139mph on the autobahn. Not too shabbyt for a diesel!

Sorry to dig up an old thread, just googled and found this....just wanted to say I have an E320 CDI (from UK) before a chip, Civic Type Rs could barely smoke me, and since I got a Brabus chip which boosts to (241hp & 400lbs/ft torque) They can barely compete...I think it must be the torque that makes the car pull so hard at all rpms....any of you had any run-ins with one since?

Cheers!
