MDX transmission question

MDX transmission question

Do the new SH-AWD equipped MDXs still have glass transmissions in them? My father is looking for a SUV replacement and its on the top of his list, but due to the poor reliability of V6 equipped automatic honda's he is concerned(and justly so). Anyone have bad experiences with one?

Ours has been fantastic so far(7.000km). I think he shouldn't worry about the reliability on the newer models since transmission problems were mostly on older models.I do wish there was a bit more power(40 or 50 extra horses) but otherwise it's terrific(I'm still speechless about the SH-AWD). shawd rocks! the transmissions have held up fine in the RL's and since the mdx might be using the same transmission as the RL, it should hold up pretty well.

the 04s and 05s are starting to have some problems...but not very many.

No problems with the transmissions. They fixed the overheating issue.

heat was never the cause of the failures, it was clutch wear.

as far as the 3G transmission goes, look for posts regarding the 3-4 shudder and whine.

We're both right. Clutchwear as well as a shaft

The problem results from insufficient lubrication of a transmission shaft that can overheat, potentially damaging gear teeth or causing the gears to break
Straight from Honda

But the other issue is the 3rd gear clutchpack having insufficient lubrication
