MDX engineers plan for the future?

I had the opportunity to check out the new MDX today while the RL was in for an oil change. I took a peak under the hood and noticed how much extra space there was. I was wondering if this is an indication of what is to come in the near future; it looks like a V8 could fit in nicely, or even the additional hardware required for a hybrid powertrain.

Any speculation? How far off is Honda's V8?

Our dealer said the first V8 will be seen on the 3g RL.

It might just be that the MDX has a large engine bay...period.

the 06's also have alot of engine room. it may have to do with cooling of the SH-AWD components on the 07's and engine cooling on the 06's. BTW, the Honda V8 or V10 will first be in the NSX. The Rl will get it after the NSX.

If the next gen RL does get a V8-SHAWD combo then, Acura would beat Infiniti (M) and Lexus (GS) to the punch.

Back on topic, with the upscaling of the MDX, Acura effectively put the MDX in the same predicament as the current RL: in a class where the direct competition has an available V8. (I personally think it needs torque north of 300lb-ft, seeing as it is 4,500lbs.)

dealers

My Acura dealer tried telling me that the next gen NSX would be a RWD V8 Turbo that'd be coming in the next 2 years. That was in 2004.

Honda tried convincing me that the next gen Civic (in 2004) would have an AWD option.

Lexus tried convincing me that there was going to be a V8 RX coming soon.

I also heard somewhere Honda tried telling someone that the Accord was AWD.

ALL their cars RWD not necessary, but at least offer the next gen S2000 with the Acura eqivalent coupe on the same platform.

And please, please don't make the next NSX a bloated, boosted, AWD, fr/rear coupe!

The Hybrid RX (400h) is still a V6 (3.3L w/hybrid assist)....and now the 2GR model (RX350) has higher output . Outside of domestic makes (i.e.: Caddy, Chevy), I do not know of any FWD (or front biased AWD) V8 models.

With regard to dealership sales staff, I have yet to meet one that has more than passable product knowledge.

Maybe I should have typed it in red.
