Hello, y'all...new here...
Anyhow, I'd personally take the M3 because it looks better and it is faster...BUT, if you were to have a third choice, a car that is very rarely mentioned here is the Mercedes-Benz C32 AMG (I like this car better than either the S4 or M3) which is just as fast as the M3 and for a nicer price too...

C32 falls VERY short of expectations. Everything stops at the engine. The seats are NOT comforatable by any stretch of the imagination and the interior is small!! When this car came out i went NUTS and thought it was the perfect mix of power and luxury but i was sorely disappointed after sitting in it.

How about you just throw the S4's bi-turbo engine and Quattro system into the body of the current M3 and call it a day? Problem solved!!

i might be wrong cuz i dont know that much about either of the cars...but i think the S4 doesnt have many "extras" in terms of body styling when compared to the regular A4s
is that right?

i totally LOVE the look of the new M3s they look so bomb and when compared to the 3 series the M3s just look so much beefier

but i totally understand the engine problems and thats a huge thing you have to consider

as for the current S4s are you guys saying they are TWIN TURBOed?!?!

thats insane!!!

anyone have the specs on these cars?

S4, IMO. You never hear problems of these cars, and they are first-rate quality. And the way the sequeltially tuned bi-tubos are, they will last a long time. The M3 is much faster, but will get more loks by people, like police than will the S4, it is "just" an Audi, yeah right. Plus the S4 had quattro AWD, and they are only one with Subaru, in AWD know-how.

My Vote S4!

M3 is not much faster. You add a $600 chip to the s4 and have 300+hp at the crank. 0-60 in the low 5s

without a doubt here the S4 is the way to go, only question is whether to get the current one or wait for the new generation with the supposed 340 hp. the M3 may be faster out of the factory, but like its been said, a chip, exhaust, and better tires will get an S4 ourperforming an M3 accross the board...plus the S4 is better than the M3 in the fact that its more practical, 4 doors, can be used as a winter car with no problem, etc....add my vote to the S4 column..in fact, if all goes well, the 2006 or 2007 S4 will be my next car!! after i add 100,000 miles to my CL-S and pay it off.

New S4 will have the S6 V8 engine 340hp. THat engine is actually lighter than the 2.7T in current S4. WIll have a 6 speed. DOnt know the price, but would say~45-50k.

Any of these cars are a nice car to own.
That could be my next car in a few years

I love them both and I would love some critiscisms. No haters or BS please, I know alot about either car but would love to hear what others think.

I will just say Neither since you want opinions.

As for why, well, I think they're both German cars that will break and be expensive. Just not my style. I'm sure they're great cars, but I wouldn't spend that kind of money on either.

I was considering the S4 2.7 Bi-turbo w/ Rieger bodykit & other mods also a while back but decided not to, why: earlier models have blown turbos within 5K miles... M3s w/ engine problems..

My friend who has a 02' 330 Convert. was very glad to get rid of her BMW in 1 year of ownership... All I hear is problems...

for 40K+, & use consumers as beta tests European cars...

I'll stick w/ Japanese quality ... The turbo on my 94 Mr2 has 78K miles w/ occasional WOT... Still purrs fine..

Regarding the M3 engine problem, how common is it anyways? It shouldn't be any more an issue than the Acura tranny issue? Some people have problems, others are still problem free?

It was epidemic but see they actually found the source of the problem and have fixed it. As for Acura....

On a side note, I went to my local Audi Dealership today just to see what's what and the guy told me no more S4's this year. They only made like 1500 and he would love to sell me one but.....none available.

Actually, the break down was noted in the M3 version only. Some reported issues were cracked cylinders and bent valves.

I personally would take the s4 over the M3 any day especially if your talking about the new yet to be released s4. However if your going on pure looks I would buy the M3 because it is more intimadating and sporty. The s4 is a sleeper.

yeah, I wish it were that simple.

If you drive the car easy all the time, you'll never have a grenaded engine. On the other hand, if you drive it like it was meant to be driven (read: HARD!), then you are at high risk for engine failure.

Trust me, I know.

Besides, according to BMW, the SMG should NOT allow an overrev condition. Obviously, that is not true.

In light of Yummy's recent 30K post, I decided to take a second to look up his 1st, for no good reason. This is the newest I could find, but it was 2 mos. after he first joined. Is there a newer one?

Hey, rev, you'll need to repeat this a couple more times and we might get a clue that this isn't about the M3 v. S4. Or just ignore the thread and let it go off on its merry way since it's one of those never-ending subjects, like TL v. G35...
M3
