Question Is this M3 a good deal?

saw this while driving to meet up with someone. i stopped and took a look since it was nice. the only problem is it's $38k even though it's an '01. I've seen other '01s go for 32-35k so this is definitely higher then average. but i did some research and the parts are about 9k if new, not including labor.

- 19" HRE 441R Wheels. $4k
- AC Schnitzer Exhaust System. $1.5k
- AC Schnitzer Roof Spoiler. $400
- AC Schnitzer Short Shifter. $300
- AC Schnitzer Carbon Fiber Rear Diffuser. $1.5k
- H&R Coilover Suspension. $1.5k

so i looked up the kbb retail value and it was $36k (trade-in is $30k). so if it's $38k i'll only be paying $2k for all the upgrades. what do you guys think? good deal?

those prices for the aftermarket stuff SEEM high to me. ive never priced that stuff for an m3 before, it just sounds to me like you might be able to get a better deal. if you LOVE all those upgrades, then it might be worth it. but the problem buying a car that already has some upgrades, is you might have wanted different things, then it might make more sense to build your own. for example, hre is one of the best brand of rims you can buy, but if you were gonna drop 4 grand on rims, would you pick those exact ones, i probably wouldnt. i would rather buy the stock m3 and put my choice 4k dollar rims on there. just my opionon

well, i got most of my prices from http://www.bavauto.com . ac schnitzer is top quality mods for the beemer so it's never cheap

i hear what you're saying about the rims. i was thinking if i buy the car i can part out the stuff i dont want. for example sell the rims for 2k then get rims that i do want. actually i plan to keep everything except the rims. so paying about 2k for 9k of modded stuff isnt too bad right?

good deal I think, if the mods are worht it to you. Technically, mods decrease the value of a car but don't typically increase the value of a car. having said that, those are primo mods....so IMO it is a good deal!

I'd offer him $35K for it and not a penny more.

i agree, one thing i was worried about was the fact i won't receive any of the stock parts. so if i wanted to sell it later it would be harder for me to do.

but the mods are what really attracted me to this since they're one of the best

it's there, i saw the car in person...it's pretty clean except for the front damn, a little scraped up which is normal wear/tear for lowered rides

Used and especially modded M3's tend to have some wear to them and probably have been beaten on. my friend was going to buy a 01 M3 with a bunch of mods and after about an hour of checking out the car inside and out.....found it was totalled with a salvaged title Might look nice but try to look past that. I wouldnt pay a dime over 32,000 for that car.

I think its a good deal. AC Schnitzer is top quality stuff. and HRE wheels are pretty pricey wheels too. if its not your style, you can always sell them and get something like BBS LMs as long as its not salvaged and drives ok with out problems, then it should be all good. dont know if its still under warrenty, but if i can afford it, id take it.

of couse i'm going to run a carfax and see if it has a salvage title. but in regards of it being beaten on i think most used sports cars like these have been so can't really factor that in my decision. usually the only ones that havent are the ones that are driven by old ladies. if it was listed at $32k i would actually be more skeptical of it's condition.

thanks, that's what i plan to do. it's under warranty till 50k or 7/2005. i would probably contact bmw and try to get an extended warrranty.

Thanks for all the input guys. so far some ppl have felt $38k is a good deal while others have said they would only offer $32k or $35k. i'm going to run a carfax and test drive it this weekend. if everything checks out, i'm just going to bid on ebay and see what happens.

I've never really liked that color and apprently, no one else around here does either because they can barely even give them away around these parts...I've seen two (high miles and not modded mind you) for UNDER $30K.

Similarly, sunlit copper 350Zs (used) seem to be heavily discounted around here in NJ.

33-34 is a fair deal. a dealer doesnt care if you have 30k in mods, he will still only offer trade in or auction price
