Almost, not exactly though, larger engine, higher quality leather. Better interior parts like real aluminum instead of plastic, a better suspension, longer warranty, valet service. And a few other things that set it apart.

I have high hopes for the Escape-based new Lincoln MKC SUV. Looks like it's going to be a pretty nice option in that price range.

if she is willing to spend 60k and is not a car person that cares about engine then the Audi, BMW, Porsche, or maybe a Volvo will work for her. Infiniti may be a good choice too but they seem to be lagging the other luxury manufacturers. If she is considering a Porsche I can't see her buying a VW since VW, Audi, and Porsche are the same company.

My guess is she wants something nice that she can show off to her friends and in the valet line at a restaurant / country club. While the domestic luxury brands are nice I am guessing the badge matters too so a Lincoln or Cadillac will not be considered as high as a BMW, Audi, or Lexus.

If she can wait until the fall then check out the new Lexus NX.

Why don't you throw in some pictures of upcoming Lexus NX and Lincoln MCA (just to confuse her). Size wise they might be perfect though.

some of you guys have no idea how a typical asian girl is.

Asian girl drives a Cadi? Lincoln? Volve? They would not even want to be in the passenger of those cars regardless how good the car is.

Audi, BMW, Merc, Porsche and Lexus.

I have a feeling that she is going with BMW or Lexus.

As well as some of her friends that may be riding along in her car. We have to be able to match up the car with them as well since they will be seen in it.

She doesn't like the Land Rover exterior... bummer. I still tried to sell her on the diesel idea, but yeah she doesn't care about MPG

What I like is irrelevant as I'd never get an SUV unless I were married and the wife absolutely had to have it... but that MKC sure looks nice. Lexus NX might grow on me though.

Q5 still seems like the top choice, Macan next pending on options and price. She's not crazy about the domestics, as expected. Not crazy about the X3 or GLK either.

And I would sooner put a full-body naked selfie than post my sister up here.

I love my Mazda CX5 and the grand touring model has all the bells and whistles. It handles great and great ride. GT also has the 19" wheels which I don't think degrades the ride quality considering the size of the tires. I consider the CX5 a poor man's X3.

I own a GLK350 w/ 4Matic, & AMG package; LOVE IT! It's probably the best vehicle purchase we've ever made... I was never a fan of Benz, but after one test drive.... SOLD!

As far as power goes, it's moves for a heavy ass truck. But then again, it's not meant for bobbing & weaving in & out of traffic.

Don't let the AMG package fool you though, it's just lipstick (cosmetics)... 19's, dual-zone automatic climate control, power front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and Bluetooth connectivity, a six-CD changer, Sirius Satellite Radio, twin-screen DVD entertainment system, a power liftgate, a navigation system, bi-xenon headlamps with washers, LED taillights.

Ok, I'll stop being a salesman - but, you WON'T be disappointed!

She is not going to listen to the advice you gave her because she does not understand why they are important and she does not care even if they are important.

I would just recommend a BMW X3 or Mercedes GLK to Costco's sister; no explanation or further discussion necessary.

That's all I could think about after reading through the thread. Someone had to do it!

You won't!

In all seriousness, I would recommend a RX350. Super easy to drive and it's very comfortable. Plus it's not extremely expensive to maintain.

I don't get why anyone in a warm climate would want a sport ute. Then again, I don't get why anyone would want one in a cold climate.

Hi. Texas here 2 kids. Wife bumped her head too many times on the door sill of her Protege getting our first child out of the car seat, years ago. She got her first SUV then and never turned back. For me? They are utilitarian and can be cool if you get the right one.

As for Costco's sister... I can't wait to hear what she decides on. At $60K she has a ton of options in the crossover / small SUV segment. I'm an Audi fan, so I say Q5 w/ S-line for 55 - 56K.

I forgot to qualify that statement: being able to buy 2WD SUV's may offset my disdain for them (but not much).

When it rains down here, it pours... Besides, I love the contrast from coupe to 4x4 depending on the day.

I'm telling you, the GLK is a beast of a s-ute; best purchase to date.

@OP: Looking forward to seeing what she ends up getting; should be interesting.
