Just cause you can doesn't mean you should.

That said it does look like it was done well, but quarter mile times and V8 roar are not what 911's are about, in particular in that era.

it'll most likely handle pretty well too, the LS motors are really light

In this case they have actually lowered the weigh in the rear. The engine is lighter, but the cooling system adds weight, but in the end they lowered the rear axel weight by about 20 lbs.

In the hands of anything less than an expert driver, I think this is almost automotive suicide.

The article says he is supercharged, but I don't see it, I do see a polished CAI, however.

Also the car is rather slow for a 400hp 2700lb car.

It's still running the stock Porsche axels so they launched it mildly. You could have all the power in the world but you need a gear box to match up with it.

With the right gear box and axels it would be a lot faster.

When they do these small block V8 into a Porsche 914, they typically lock out 1st gear and just start with second. I wonder if they could pull a better 1/4 mile time by doing this.

the 930 axles are very very strong, they are copied in many aftermarket applications for Honda's, GM vehicles, etc.

This was their reasoning for the soft launch, not mine. I know the 930 transmission is capable of dealing with up to 750hp, but not so sure about the axels themselves.

That was kind of my point, that thing must be a bear to drive any where near its limits.

I'm basing everything I'm saying here off of the info provided by renegade hybrids and their 914 small block V8 conversions. They say you are fine running a 914 tranny up to 300hp, for 300-450hp you have to upgrade to the 915 tranny and you can run 700+ with the 930 tranny. Anywho, the bold text is copied directly from the link.....

His quarter mile time to date is (11.94 sec at 114 mph) and was accomplished with a conservative take off because of the stock Porsche axles.

I like it. Not only does it piss off the purists, but it probably reduced the maintenance costs by 50%, too.

LSx FTW!

Usually I am not surprised at LSx conversions but this time I am. I always expect the LSx to be in a front engine car with RWD.

Disgusting. Ruining perfect German engineering with an LS1.
