Looking at getting a CPO

Hi all after 11 loyal years I will be getting a new (to me) car. I have been looking at 2008 or 2009 BMW 335i and 328i (sedan or coupe) all under 40kmiles. From current owners what are some issue I would run into beside the hpfp on the 335i. Also in the run is a 2008 or 2009 528i. I have always loved BMW, and since the wife has a SUV it doesn't really matter what size car I get. Any suggestions. Any suggestions on any other cars?

Also with the lease offers being so attractive on a new 2012 TL its been also hard to justify spending 28k to 34k on a used car.

Go for it... you'll love it!! Our last two cars, and likely the rest, have all been CPO and so far, no problems. Honestly, probably will never buy new again. Makes no sense. Our last puchase was a 2010 E350. Got it with low miles on 1/1/11 and save almost $21k over sticker. Let some other sucker take the depreciation hit!!

Good luck

I know most dont agree with me but I never put much faith in CPO cars. I seen wrecked cars get labeled as CPO...

CPO cars are marked up so much that its almost always cheaper to buy a non CPO and buying an extended warranty.

With that said, I say go for it!

^ That is true... you still need to do your homework (VIN checks, service history, etc).

And it is also true that CPO cars are generally marked up more, but the internet has more then leveled the playing field. All you need to do is print up one or two eBay ads for fairly local auctions, and typically you can chew them down. We got ours for about $3k below asking... and when doing a search, most similar models were selling for $5k-$7k more... so CPO or not... it pays to research and negotiate...

If you want to lease then the 2012 TL does have some decent lease deals going on. But i dont like the idea of "renting a car" and in the end paying all that $ and not owning it. Jmo. I vote for buying a cpo car.

Good advice!

I know BMW dealers wont haggle that much on CPO since they know they people love the CPO program for peace of mind..

Never hurts to try though.

In general dealers put CPO warranty's on cars that they feel like they'll have to fix under warranty the least, therefore making them good buys

I have purchased CPO from Acura and Audi only. Acura was willing to negotiate on price a bit, but the Audi had already been reduced for "internet special" so I offered the list and obviously they accepted, LOL

IMO - I'd try to find a 3 that is already within your price range and just see how far they are willing to go down from that. I'd act like the asking price is absurd even if it's exactly what you're looking for

CPO ftw.

I'd say go for the 335i, such a mean machine. The previous owner of my Legacy GT bought a used 335i, with an intake, exhaust (catted) and a tune his 335i made 368whp and 406wtq. which is crazy impressive.

He loves it very much.

Good luck!

If you are into modding at all, 335i is a perfect car for you.

I do not have experience with BMW, so can't talk to them... but you're right... can't hurt to try!!

Our E350 was also different in that we bought it from a VW dealer. They had it priced aggresively to begin with b/c they didn't want to get stuck with it. Knowing someone there helped and they budged a bit on price... but we negotiated other things in (got it CPO'ed at a local Merc dealer and had the windows tinted)...

With Audi, they didn't move as much. Only got a couple grand off plus tinted windows thrown into that CPO...

Thanks guys. Do y'all think 2008 is a little aged for a 335i? Cause I can pick one up for 25k with under 40k miles. Any thoughts on the g37?

Has anyone here bought from carmax? If so do you recommend it?
Also I have been looking at the 528i and 535i at carmax here is one that I found

Never purchased through Carmax. They generally do not haggle and no CPO. Doesn't mean it isn't a good deal though... but make sure you compare their price to others.

As for your other questions, 2008 with under 40k miles... I don't think that's too old. I try to stay within 3-4 model years as the oldest I'd go for a daily driver... so definitely would fit my criteria. More importantly... does it fit yours?

Personally I don't like the way Carmax is setup. You can't drive through the lot on your own. You HAVE to get out and walk through the showroom which means a salesman is going to be all over you. Maybe their not that bad but just don't like that setup. Agree with above, shop around for price.

I had an 07 335i but sold it after 14k miles so I am not the best to ask. Although no issues in that time and it was modded.

Many of my buddies have them with over 40k miles with no major issues. Two of them did have their hpfp crap out but for them they noticed long cranks before it went out. They were never stranded.

It wont be as reliable as a G37 though. However I would still go with the 335i since its more fun to drive.

2008 335i isnt that old but i do like the 09 335i I drive WAY better. Of course you will see the price reflect this.

Hi All, well I have a buddy at the Acura dealership back home, and ended up getting a 2010 V6 TSX with tech, and aero kit and its CPO. Ended up getting the car for 26.5k.
I really don't know why the first owner spent 42k on a TSX but each his own. The car was driven by a older gentlemen and had 12k miles. I fully inspected the car, the under body looked like it has never seen rain. Overall great car, and will probably drive it for two years and get a newer Beamer 335i.

Congrats man! I've heard good things about the TSX V6. How's it drive?

And yeah, no clue why someone would spend that much money on a new TSX, but hey that's why you buy used.

problem solved!

FWIW....leasing/renting a car only makes sense if it is for business and can be written off.
