As far as being destroying, that's only in the QTR mile/0-60 tests. As far as track times goes, the Type R is clearly a strong competitor to the RS. Against it, the Type R laps around a 1 second of the RS, ahead & behind over 4 circuits; they're extremely equal cars. At the Nurburgring, it's reportedly 16 seconds faster.
Against the Golf R, the CTR has been faster on every circuit bar Hockenheim by a second. Nurburgring, the Golf R isn't even in the same league; 7:50 vs. 8:14.
Everything I've read says that the Focus is better on roads/highways while the CTR is better on the track. FOR ME, that's more important since I spend a million times more of my life on the road vs on the track. Also, the Focus (so I've read) is easier to drive and milk out the times than the CTR. Hand both cars to your average joe and the Focus will smoke the CTR.
You can't lose with either and I'm not a fan of the Golf R anyway so we can agree there. :
I would think all three (Golf R, Focus and CTR) are geared for street/track. Its a difficult balancing act for a car company if you ask me. Personally I like all three of them.
I think whats driving me right now is hope. Hope that Honda is giving us something that can in fact bring the fight to the others. Not everyone can afford an NSX. Fingers crossed.
It WILL be expensive though. The Focus RS is $50,000 in Canada, but it only comes in fully loaded guise. Add taxes, on top of that, and shiiiiet.... You got a $53k Focus.
I'd imagine the Type R will be the same. If there is a "base", it'll be like 46k. Optioned out, closer to 55k. Good luck trying to pay MSRP on it, also.

Being better on the road ways is not getting "destroyed in every way". Neither is the Focus RS being easier to drive. No one cares about which car is faster for Average Joe b/c Average Joe's skills range from n00b to Once-A-Month hot lapper. Average Joe can buy a GT-R and start throwing down laps after a day quicker than he can in say, an ACR Viper, b/c it's waaay easier to drive. At the end of the day, the ACR is still the more dominant machine & can't be deducted points b/c Joe can't set lap records right off the showroom floor....
In addition to that, one of the more common conclusions is that while the RS may be easier to driver & friendlier on the road, the Type R is the more exciting car & that's why it gets picked in the reviews it comes out on. Ford Focus RS vs. Honda Civic Type R | PistonHeads
The Focus makes a convincing first impression then, but certainly not an overwhelming one. Over the same stretch of Welsh B-road, there's no escaping that the Civic - sorry fast Ford fans - is simply the more exciting car.
Again though, it's the handling of the Focus that shines at Anglesey. It can do precise and quick, it can do lairy and it can do everything in between. You can even do some proper power oversteer out of the slower corners. In a Ford Focus! The weight undoes it eventually though. The brakes wilt sooner than the Civic's, and it uses more fuel too. Which is a pain when the trip to the filling station costs you 40 minutes of valuable track time. On the circuit it's a laugh, certainly, but has it done enough to claw back the Honda's advantage from the road? No, put simply.
None of those are enough to take a victory from the Type R though. The conditions favoured it, and the verdict could well have been different with Wales under water (as it tends to be). On warm, dry tarmac though, be that road or track, the Civic is simply more exciting, more fun and more involving than the Focus.
You're right, you can't really lose with either which is why your original post was so bizarre to begin with as if the CTR was a flop.

If the CTR is FWD, what is its direct competitor? Golf R, RS, STI are all AWD (even if they're part time, etc.)
Focus ST? What do they sticker at?
Those ARE the competitors. Just because it's not AWD, doesn't mean it can't compete. At least on asphalt, it's pretty much as fast as the RS. And I'm guessing both of those are faster than the Golf R and the STi. Again, all on asphalt.
if Honda prices the car just under $40k, i could see alot of RS and R owners thinking twice... just as long as Honda doesn't overprice it like what Lexus did with their RC-F and GS-F...
One was spotted back in Nov. Has some white vinyl in some areas, I can dig it. Especially if its black. Guy who posted said it was near Honda HQ. Theres a video with it but it sucks.
Who said anything about $50K? Everyone here, OP included, also agrees $40K is really pushing it.
Most insiders are guessing around $33-34K to match Ford. It also would price the car around $7-8K over the current, most expensive Civic; the upcoming Si is predicted around $25K which places the R at just around $10K more. This would fall in line with how Honda has typically priced the cars.
it's an Elise... i hope you get every penny E-Man... you always take great care of your cars and there is no expense spared... if i didn't already have the MR2, i'd consider buying it from you... my timing for taking over your cars are never good...

thanks man. I'm in no rush. I don't have to sell it. So I can always wait. We'll see what the market looks like
