Smile Light replacement not covered in Owner manual

My '96 Acura Integra's dashboard gage light(s) no longer light up. The owner's manual say to contact the dealer for other than the Indicator lights.
If you have done the bulb replacementment yourself, and could share with us the steps, it may be something most of us use at some time, like me.
I have removed dash boards on older cars, but I don't want to get into a jam with this car for not using the right sequence or steps that do not affect other devices like the air bag. Your comments are greatly appreciated. Has anyone had this done at other than a dealer, and how much did it cost?

Removing the integra instrument cluster is actually a very easy thing to do. I've done it numerous times on my '97 integra, haven't done it yet on my '98, but it's the same process. It's just a matter of unscrewing the two screws from the instrument cluster bezel, then pull that out. Then there are three screws to remove the cluster from the dash, one on top and one on each side. Then you can unplug the harnesses and pull out the cluster. Some people say you need to cut a zip tie to remove the harness which may be attached to the cluster, but I don't know remember doing that on my '97, perhaps it changed on earlier/later models.

You should check out the team-integra.net boards, there are A LOT of general maintenance FAQ's and articles on there as well as aftermarket stuff. here is a link on how to install aftermarket faces for your instrument cluster which will give you the steps need to remove the instrument cluster to replace bulbs for your cluster:

Oh and I forgot to mention. If NONE of the gauge lights are working you may have a more serious problem and quite possibly may need to replace the cluster.

If it's just some bulbs that are out, just replace em and you should be good to go.

Now to get the bulbs, not stocked in Acura dealership

I put a call in to Acura of Avon, CT and they said to drop by and pre-pay for the bulbs that they don't have in stock, but they place an order for costing about $5 each for this really tiny bulbs for the circuit board. They have pictures to show of the bulbs i might order.
Seems possible that one of us on the Thread following this could maybe tell me of a web site to find the way to order myself and save some money on this sly deal? These are the bulbs for 4 gages only. Gas, Speedometer, battery, etc. for my 1996 Acura Integra LS 2 dr hatchback, I am trying to find this for. I hope someone has some choices for me?

If I recall, the bulbs used are standard wedge 194 bulbs for the large gauges (tach, speedo, etc) and the smaller bulbs for the individual lights (blinker, gas light, seat belt, oil, etc..) are bulbs you can also pick up from autozone like the wedge 194 bulbs.

Reply to Sly or others

I had the car working with all the lights great all last week Sly! Funny though last Friday the 10amp fuse just blew for the same circuit, with the tail lights and instrument panel on them. The bulbs all look good, and is there anything you would suggest before this goes into the dealership for this situation. It occurs when I turn on the lights, not when start the car. It sounds like this could be simple or expensive. If it is the cluster as said, do salvage yards stock these, from 1996 models or any other suggestions?

I don't know enough about the electrical layout of the integra to offer troubleshooting advice other than replacing bulbs since that's the cheapest thing to check first.

You can find used clusters, you may get lucky and find at a junk yard, but iv'e seen them pop up on ebay quite often.
