Lexus tops British security tests
British magazine What Car runs annual car security tests to measure the ability of cars on the local market to withstand the attacks of car thieves. Cars are judged on the effectiveness of their security systems, including door-locks and immobilisers, and graded on how long their systems will withstand the attentions of a security expert playing the part of a thief to open a door and gain entry to the car. This years results show that a determined effort on the part of the industry to combat car crime is bearing fruit. 60 cars were tested, and almost half resisted all efforts to open the doors. Even if a door could be opened, not one of the cars tested could be driven away without the key. Top of the results were three Lexus models, the IS300, LS 430 and SC 430, all of which scored a 100% maximum. Of the cars the magazines thief was able to get into, the least resistance was offered the Jeep Cherokee, which was opened in just 9 seconds, and the European version of the Toyota Corolla, which gave in after just 8.
The fact that none of the cars could be driven away without the key is leading to a changing pattern in car crime in the UK. Unable to steal unattended cars from car parks, thieves are turning to car-jacking, ambushing drivers as they return to their parked cars or attacking them while stationary in traffic. According to British government statistics, this form of crime has increased by 10 percent in the last 12 months

Not funny though. To increase personal injuty or worse because the car cannot be taked away by a thief sounds like defeating the purpose. I dont know what the trend is in the USA but I would not be surprised if it were similar.

I think a lot of people do not use basic safety rules.
Park around people. Not big things that obscure your view.
Lighted areas.
Stay away from bad areas.
NEVER, leave your keys in the car, even in your own driveway
etc
