Lexus LS600hL exceeding sales expectations
Lexus LS600hL exceeding sales expectations
I remember reading posts from people saying how the LS600hL was going to flop and nobody was going to pay $104K to $125K for a Lexus, blah, blah, blah:
http://www.egmcartech.com/2007/12/04...TOKEN=34499707
When Lexus announced the starting MSRP of the Lexus LS 600h Hybrid at $104,750, the media ridiculed the model for being way too expensive for a hybrid. Not to mention the so-so fuel-economy.
Originally, Lexus expected to sell a total of 7,000 Lexus LS 600h hybrids in 2007 with Japan accounting for 3,600 units, Europe accounting for 2,160 units and the US accounting for 1,200 to 2,000 units in the US. According to the latest results from Toyota, Lexus has already moved 6,093 units worldwide up until October. The car just went on sale in July.
Sales of the RX400h and the GS450h, are both down significantly.

I drove one at a Lexus event. It is so much nicer than the A8L and 750Li that I previously drove. So the news of its sales success does not surprise me in the least.
The RX is now carrying a fairly aged design now. Coupled with a price premium of the hybrid model (over the similarly powered, less expensive RX350), its languishing sales does not surprise me neither.

(though they also said the s-class is the best of the four)
personally, i'm really not into the huge sedans so i don't think i'll ever be in the market to buy one. (another reason being the price.)
but i'm not surprised at all that this car has been a winner for lexus.

What an ignorant thing to say. Lexus engineering is on par with or better than the germans now, without regards to the interior quality that is much better (hand polished wood, hand buffed leather, rear auto climate control using laser temp sensors, etc etc) You forget old ladies drive mercs and bimmers too
While toyota is the parent company, Lexus is in charge of its own designs, material quality, etc. Would you buy a 100k+ VW?

you laugh that lexus is asking for $100k+ for a sedan. but people are paying that plus more. so at the end of the day, who's laughing now?
lexus may not be in the same class in terms of performance with its german counterparts, but it's already caught up in luxury, in my opinion.
at the end of the day, lexus is doing its job by making quality cars and selling them. and generalizing all lexus buyers as old ladies and tree huggers is like saying all bmw buyers are spoiled trust fund kids.
You really believe they have hand polished wood and leather on a mainstream production car?
I'm just saying...if I was spending $100k, the S550 looks and performs better. Its all opinion I guess. I also think Lexus' designs are aweful, inside and out with the exception of the new GS, which is the only semi-decent looking one that i'd drive. But I still wouldn't choose any of their cars over the german equivalent. IS or 335...(335/new C), GS or 5 series (5 series/E class), LS or S550/745 etc...

Everything you are commenting on is subjective.
Also, you're 19. Lexus doesnt give a flying fuck if you like their stuff or not. You're out of their demographic.

...which is why I said its all opinion
. You're 28, I guess thats 25 years out of their demographic as well. I'm trying to find a review that puts a Lexus in front of the german cars it goes against....hmmm.....

Look, I didn't realize how many Toy...Lexus fanboys were on this site. Get over it, its my opinion, and almost everyone elses view on them (off the internet)

back in 1997, if you had told a bunch of car guys that in 2007, there will be a $100,000+ Lexus sedan... they probably would've laugh like JJaber06... well, it's 2007 and there's a $100,000+ Lexus sedan selling and apparently selling quite well... 10 years from now... we'll see if people like JJaber06 will be laughing

Me, if I can afford a car like that I would definitely have a sports car in the garage next to it, therefore I want plush luxury in a giant luxo cruiser for long trips.
All 4 (lexus, audi, bmw, mercedes) have plenty of power and performance for long highway trips.
Get your head out of the magazines (and your ass) and drive some real cars in the real world.

Keep defending them, i'm sure one day you'll have enough money saved up to buy an expensive car, and when you do, please post it here. I'm curious to see who you end up with. Feels like i'm talking to an eight year old.
Its just you being an ignorant uneducated fuckstick.

Its kind of hard to walk into a Mercedes or BMW dealer and ask to take out a $100,000 car around the block when you're 19, so I drive whatevers in the driveway. I've had first hand experience with an older 745 and that car is mind blowing in every sense of the word. It doesn't even feel like you're driving a boat and grips the road like no other. Didn't think a car of that size could keep a smile on my face. I can almost bet the Lex won't do that. I drove my friends mom's ES330?(00?) and besides its comfortable seats, it has nothing compared to my TL, and they're both the same model year/price range. I can see it being the same in the $100k category, sorry. I'm sure its a comfy car, but the Bimmer, and probably the new S, will make it feel as if you're driving a sports car instead of a huge cruiser.

Oh, and
@ Sarlacc. Like he said, if you have the bucks for a big boat like the LS, you're probably gonna have a sports car, too, to satisfy the other side of your driving appetite.Edit: I stand corrected - you say you've driven an ES 330. I'll give you that it's Camry-esque, but the 350 is a lot nicer, and the GS (with AWD) loses a lot of the floaty feeling in its handling. I can't claim to have driven an LS yet, but as soon as I get the chance...

The ES330 is NOT a sport sedan. They don't even call it a sport sedan. Its a luxury sedan, period. So, no it would compare to your TL, which is a SPORT sedan.
The LS is a LUXURY sedan. Lexus does not put SPORT anywhere in the title. They are not going for sport. They are going for quiet, plush, luxury, & comfort. But just because its not a sport tuned sedan doesn't mean it has a wimpy engine under the hood either.

Which is all i'm saying. For 10k more, you can get a S550 or for the same price, a BMW 750. Its fine that Lexus goes for the plush luxury theme, but the germans do that and more, which is why they're always ahead.

not like I came on here bashing it.
