BTW OP, where are you? I may have missed it. Why not pick up a cheap motorcycle for commuting, and keep your car? You can pickup a nice used Ninja 250 or CR250 for a few thousand. I know my Ninja got over 50mpg and that wasn't even babying it. Even when I stepped up to the bigger bikes they were getting over 40mpg...

I was looking up the fuel mileage versus my 1999 TL to the 2014 TL...LOL....you're better off keeping an old car as long as you can. These new cars are thirsty.

Somewhat agree but toss on a new set of rims and it would look worlds better. Those are really fugly on this car but if gas mileage is a primary concern...this thing will dominate most cars short of a Tesla. Also, it looks better than the other plug in cars on the road today...

Yes but the mpg of a 4 cylinder Accord on the highway is 27mpg city and 36mpg hwy (30 combined), the plug in hybrid is 124mpg-e city and 105mpg-e hwy (115mpg-e combined)...that's a pretty huge jump. Plus you get the tax credit on the car as well.

Cost per mile for the 4 cylinder accord is $0.12, the plug in is $0.03.

Cost per year at 19k a year is $2280 vs $570 which is a savings of $1710 a year if you take the combined rating. If OP drives mostly city, the difference is even more ($1900). Downside is that you have to pay for electricity but if that's cheap in your area then even better. The hybrid is ~25kWh per 100mi driven so take that into account. Even still 25kWh@$0.11/kWh=$2.75 per 100mi vs $12 in gas.

If you compare this car to the Touring which, based on the features list, you should the cost difference is only $7k which doesn't factor in the economy penalty of the V6 in the Touring. You'd make up the $7k in ~5 years if you compare to the 4 cylinder, faster if you compare to the V6.

This I did not know or read about. If that's the case then the payback period is going to be ridiculous unless you're only going in ~15 mile chunks.

OP, don't buy accord plug in. Buy diesel VW.

Yeah, I was kind of wondering where you were going with the math there SamDoe . It's great it's advertised as 115mpg-e combined, but after 13 miles, you're on the engine, which is about 44mpg. Not worth paying twice as much for it over the I4 Accord (IMO).

But the regular Accord Hybrid might be a pretty good choice for the OP. Claims 50mpg city / 45 hwy. Car & Driver observed 41mpg.

Never understood how a slow car with somewhat decent handling ala CRZ....Is considered fun lol, I personally did not find that car fun at all. The car did feel light though in the corner, which was a plus compared to the body roll you get in the TSX..

I felt the same way about the FR-S.

it could be very fun, as long as the road/track has endless corners.

The moment you hit a straight, you will be like FUCK!!! I NEED MORE POWER!!!!

How about a 2013 Subaru Impreza Hatchback WRX....or get a 2014/2015 Subaru Impreza Hatchback and do a few cosmetic mods to make it look like a WRX.
