you guys dont seem to excited about this. well, let me remind ya of something. when lexus brought out the gs400, it was really something. it wasnt the fastest, or the best in handling. the 540 was always there to compete. but, it was from lexus. whenever a performance car comes from lexus, it deserves respect. the reliability alone is more than enough reason for it to be great.

I think there is not that much exitement cause we have been teased for 2 years about this.
First, Lexus said TRD would produce a supercharged IS for a L-tuned II package.
Then TTE did the initial engine swap and said they could make it if Toyota signed off.
Now this.
The GS does 0-60 in high 5s with the 4.3 with an auto weighing 3800lbs. A 400 lbs lighter IS with a 6 speed may hit 5 flat with Lexus reliability.
Also the 4.3 develops 325 lbs of torque at 4000rpm I think. So if it has 350hp, it will have at least 350lbs of torque.

yeah, WTF happened to the LTuned SC package? When I was car shopping in May of '01 that was all the talk from the dealer when he was trying to put me into an IS300 for way more than it was worth.

I would love to see an IS430, i dont think it'll be that expensive. An IS300 is only around 28-30k around here, at least everyone that i know bought it for that price. the 430 should be around 40k i would think(not counting the first few months its available)

What I have learned is, in order to keep things equal, you have to "quantize" to CFM (cubic foot per minute). In other words, how much air is entering the cylinders, not what its pressure is.
We all know that if I have 10 pounds of air in a intake manifold 5"X5"X5" and then move that same air in a 10"X10"X10" large intake manifold, the relative pressure will drop dramatically. So the PSI will be lower. But both engines are fed with the same "amount" of air/oxygen.
In any case, I am sure you understand that better than me.

Also notice how I said effective displacement. It is a simulated number to equal the same comparative volume as a normally aspirated motor.
But if you must ask I will spell it out for you.
V8 NA Airflow in CFM = (CID * RPM * 0.5 * Ev) / 1728
CID = 275ci = 4.5L
RPM = 7000
ev = 0.9
So Airflow = (275 * 7000 * 0.5 * 0.9) / 1728 = 501 CFM
CL-S NA Airflow in CFM
CID = 195ci = 3.2L
RPM = 7000
ev = 0.9
So Airflow = (195 * 7000 * 0.5 * 0.9) / 1728 = 355 CFM
On a boost motor Airflow Rate = Pressure Ratio * Basic Engine CFM
6 PSI Boost / 14.7 + 1 = 1.41 PR
355CFM * 1.41 = 500CFM
BTW, these formulas are well known; I stole them from the book Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. I have a feeling Mr. Bell knows a thing or two about engines and boosting them.
