Let's all laugh at my 1/8th mile times

absolutely horrible, quickest 60' I could manage on the stock 18's was 2.3, lol. That was leaving at idle basically. Even then, the car wheel hopped like crazy all through first.

My best time was 9.262. I got down a decent launch on my last run racing against a Mach 1 but my ****ing shift knob popped off going into second (and unfortunately the time slip station couldn't find my slip to see what my 60' was)

Here are my shitty times, lol

R/T 1.103 1.289 .594 1.034
60' 2.300 2.711 2.348 2.581
330 6.095 6,730 6.272 6.394
1/8 9.262 9.975 (left TC on) 9.428 9.491
MPH 78.72 77.12 78.52 80.11

My 60' are what absolutely killed me, even my 1st gen CL would cut 2.0-2.1's, haha

Oh well, i'm going to work on my launch and get out there next time. Also really need some new rubber, thing can't hook for shit, even w/ just taking off from idle

BTW, gotta love a company that gives you 235/40/18's on a car w/ 400 hp and 400 lb ft, even the fucking solstice gets bigger tires

btw, I know, the R/T's are crap, I didn't care about any of them, only one I tried on was .594, the rest I was just working on trying to launch and keeping the car from rolling to much since on this track you roll on the start line.

Time for those 305 Nittos you were talking about!

I can't believe they only put 235s on that thing!

2.7 60'! Did they prep the track at all? What PSI were you running in the rears? I pulled a 1.95 60' on my first pass on 235/55 A/S Pirellis.

it's a really well prepped track suprisingly. Most say it's the best one in the area and I believe it's the quickest 1/8th mile in the country. W/ better tires I'm sure I could pull a 1.95, you also don't lay down the power we do and have a solid rear which the "draggers" love

what was your 1/8th mile time?

that 2.7 was also the run where I left the TC on

as far as what PSI I was running, I ran what I run on the street for the first few (33), then went down to 28 on the last run

Had they gone any wider the front would rub the strut

I'm looking into some stock 17" that I can throw some radials on.

BTW, I ran a cobra w/ pulley, exhaust and intake. He ran a 2.485 60' @ 8.997. He had pretty bad hop as well.

I'm also going to look into a set of drag bags for the rear. They are cheap, and figure even though I won't drag much, i'd like to see what they do.

You definitely need to put more tire behind that car. My 350Z barely has enough tire to launch well and I have 245's in the back, so I can imagine how rough it is with the GTO with 235's.

BTW, back at Acurawars a few years back, my CL-S with OBX headers, I ran a 9.32 in the 1/8th, so you definitely have big room for improvement

Most guys say I should be running 8.5 stock, there are a few guys down in the 8.1-8.3's

W/ a 1.8-2.0 60ft I totally see myself running 8.7ish I spin well through first and somewhat into 2nd.

That's weird that the track was prepped well and you ran those kind of 60's. I am sure you did this but did you avoid the water box and do a quick spin before heading to the line?

My 1/8 was 8.4X@85.

Did a quick spin before the line, avoided the box as best as I could.

i'm not suprised I ran such a shitty 60', this car just spins and spins and spins and spins, along w/ wheel hop, more wheel hop, and even more wheel hop.

On my last run I had my cell phone on the tray on the center console right behind the shifter, afterwards I found it in the back seat

Wow I didn't even realize the GTO came with 235's - that's sinful. What's the largest width wheel you can get on them, 10?

I spun pretty good one time and had bad wheel hop, so I pedaled it. It resulted in my worst 60' of 2.09. What rpm were you launching? I didn't see that mentioned.

the trick is to modulate the launch until you start to get traction, and even then with that much torque you don't wanna floor it - keep modulating until out of the hole as smooth as you can, then you lay into it... all of this happens within about 2 sec. thx

When I put on the short shifter a few weeks back we cracked the knob so I didn't ever glue it back on and put it on properly because I had a new one on order. The new one came in on weds but I'm putting it on today

damn, I didn't realise RWD cars had such bad problems with wheel hop. I always thought it was just FWD cars. I thought that's why people always mocked the thought of a fWD car with 500+ whp.

My friend's CTS-V has wheel hop everytime he hits hard into 2nd gear. I could feel the tires coming off the ground, it's pretty bad. Then again, I don't know if he knows how to shift too well...

it's pretty common in IRS cars, the GTO's and Cobras for example have it pretty bad

My Z has wheel hop pretty badly as well. It's the IRS as CLpower mentioned. That is why the Mustang faithful wanted the live rear axle in the new Mustang. It's definitley much easier to launch.

Yeah, my brothers Tbird Supercoupe was a bitch to get off the line too..

I didn't realize that they had 1/8's in CA... I thought that was a southeastern thing...

I always get messed up reading abotu 1/8 mile times 'cause I don't know how they corolate...

But, since we're talking about you 60 foot times, it really doesn't matter about the length of the track...

yeah, you 60 suck... Gonna have to work on that...

Hell yeah it is...stickier tires help, but then you have to worrk about snapping a half shaft. IRS sucks for drag racing...but its great for EVERYTHING else!

My Mustang gets wheel hop as well. I need to change my upper and lower control arms with something beefier, mainly in the bushings. I'd take IRS over a SRA anyday of the week.

in general, some say to multiply your 1/8th by 1.55 However, I don't know hwo accurate it truely is, there are a ton of cars that don't really show their legs till the 2nd half of the track

Irwindale

A lot of the guys are using drag bags, new springs (a lot are doing drag springs, real tight rear, soft front)or going w/ rear subframe connectors

Nothing i'm really interested in as I could careless about going straight real fast. I may try out the drag bags though since they are only like $100

CLpower...
I just took the Cobra out for a ride and I got to a stop light, so I figured I try out the new tires. Serioulsy....I bogged it at 2500 rpms and it hopped a TINY bit and just bit! Those tires made a BIG difference! I can't imagine how 305 Nittos would stick!
