Lots o' praises... looks like this one will add to the cache of the Accord.
Junkster, who would consider it if he was opting for an Accord

oooh, and the fact that emission standards are going higher and higher. supposedly, the E-class diesel will be phased out of the US in the next five to six years due to new restrictions.

Diesels work just like gas versions of the car except they have lots of low/midrange torque - great for passing. Diesels will be just fine as long as CA doesn't get its way and legislates rules for the rest of the country and world.

I dunno, I was thinking recently of getting a nice 4-banger as a daily driver. Funny but driving the ES, the gas mileage is hella better than the GS. Less inclined to have a heavy foot too.
SO all these hybrids are of solid interest.

I was in the E-class diesel and pleasently surprised at how quite it was... it's amazing how far diesel technology has come. And with companies such as Honda and Toyota still investing heavily in the technology, it seems to be promising for the viable future.

The stats: An Accord Hybrid produces 255 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque, 90 percent of which is available below 4000 rpm. This represents a 6.3 percent increase in horsepower, while torque is up 9.4 percent. That's good enough to knock about half a second off the time it takes to reach 60 mph from a standstill.
To counter the added weight from the electric motor and battery pack, the Accord Hybrid features an aluminum hood, aluminum suspension components and unique lightweight alloy wheels. In place of a spare tire, Honda provides a flat-tire repair system. Still, the Accord Hybrid weighs in about 175 lbs. more than the Accord EX V6.
At the E-class price range the diesel is virtually the same price as the gas version ($750 more). The performance of the diesel is about the same as the gas version (this won't be true when MB switches to the 3.5L V6) but he milage goes up to close to 40MPG on the highway.
Makers push what they have developed and their strengths. MB has been making diesels forever and are good at it. Toyota and Honda have this hybrid bug and running with it. Honda will start playing both sides of the fence with their diesels. I predict huge success for the new CR-V diesels w/ 6MT in Europe.
It's very simple, assuming emissions are not an issue what would you get:
TSX w/200HP 2.4L gas engine getting 20/30 MPG at $27K (0-60 of 7.5s w/6MT)
w/150HP 2.2 diesel engine getting 35/50MPG at $27K (0-60 of 8s w/6MT)
w/215HP 2.4L+IMA getting 30/40MPG at $31K (0-60 of 7.8s w/5AT cause you can't get MT with IMA)

Researchers are working on stuff like particluate traps and urea injection now to meet these standards.
