Legend A/C question

I am posting this question for a buddy of mine. He has a 94 Legend GS with a seized A/C compressor. He has a new compressor and drier that he will be installing. The question is, does the system need to be evacuated before he removes the seized compressor? I believe most of the coolant has leaked out of the system already. Also, does the system need to be flushed before he installs the new compressor and drier?

Yes it has to be purged because there is a very high probability the A/C system used the old R-12 freon, which is very hazardous to the environment. Also, it would be required that they switch to the more environmentally-friendly R134A.

It actually had R134A in it before the compressor seized. He had previous work done on the A/C system before. I am just wondering about flushing the system. I read that a seized compressor can contaminate the system with debris.

Might be a good idea to get that crap out of there.

always purge the lines before replacing any component of the a/c system... when i had the compressor changed on my Vigor, i had them flush out the system and put in a new drier...
