Leftover 07 or new 08 335i?

Buddy is going to look at a 335i sedan.

Hes found the car he wants, exactly with all the options but its an 07 with 13 miles on it. Never titled. They willing to go under invoice for it. But wont say how much till hes there in the showroom. The car also has Mtech bodykit on it.

Theres an 08 335i brand new close to his options for $500 over invoice. Which they are offering 3.9% on 08 models.

What would you guys do?

Why not sell him yours

I would look at what year old 335i's go for, if he can't get it down to that price he'd be better off with the 08. The car is a year old now and is worth much less then an 08, there may be small savings up front but overall cost of ownership will be higher if they won't give him a smoking deal.

^ 07 wouldnt have the 3.9 rate though. Who knows how low they can do the rate, but he would only be financing 20k

Edmunds.com says retail on that 07 if used would be $42,900 retail. So about $2700 under invoice.

In that case if you can't get $2k under invoice buy the 08, between the slightly better interest rate and less realized depreciation it will be the cheaper car to own.

What are the used trade-in and market value prices?
Might as well start there- at least $3K below invoice for the '07??

That 42,900 was what edmunds says was market value for retail on it.

Didnt factor in the bodykit or the fact its never been titled.

Remember, you're losing a year here on the car (ie depreciation factors in). With that said, It has to be SUBSTANTIALLY below invoice to make it worth it IMHO.

Never titled with 17K on it means it was beat to hell by either test drivers or the bosses 18yr old son.

werd

Might as well go for a slightly used (and titled) 07 and knock off even more.

Like some of the other members have said, you need to consider the depreciation. Next year the car will be two years old in most people's views. Tough choice.

A car this nice I would want to keep it for a long time and therefore would probably get the '07 and the extended warranty!

If the difference isn't at least 15% compared to overall cost (considering rebate on new and interests), I'd say go for the new one.

Wise move, even though the 07 would have been less money today, it would have cost more every day after.

Great interest rate too, my credit score is over 800, I have no other debt and haven't for over 5 years and I could only get low 5's.

BMW is offering it as a special rate for 08 3series till end of April.

Wish it was available when i bought my car!

07 was just not worth it. They wouldnt go lower than 1300 under invoice and theres no way they would have gotten him a 3.9% rate.

Patrick BMW, ask for Chris Lima... really a nice guy. He stayed passed 10 just to delivery the car. (we walked in at 8:15)

He wanted Black on Terra leather which that 07 was.

Since he didnt want to order and wait, he found an 08 black on black at Patrick BMW.

Black Sapphire
Black Leather
Premium package
Heated seats
Sport Package
Steptronic
Comfort Access
Navigation

Came out to $46k something. Sticker was $49,xxx

The last time Jesal started a thread with "my friend wants to buy a car" he ended up buying a S2000.

well im glad you guys didn't end up at Laurel BMW of Westmont... they couldn't get me out the door fast enough and I only got $500 off sticker for mine (they claimed they were already giving me an extra $2k for my TSX than what it was worth )

sounds like he got a good deal... just not sure why someone would want a 335 in automatic.

oh and make sure he knows about all the oil pump problems that have been floating around on 335's... hopefully he got a good one.

sorry i ment fuel pump not oil....

a ton of guys over on e90post.com say that the car will start up and shut itself off after about 10 sec due to faulty fuel pumps. they pretty much said its a 50%-50% shot that you have to get it replaced at least once but some have gone in 3-4 times already.

head over there and do a search on 335 fuel pump.
