Question Land Rover : LR3

Anybody own one...or know someone who does? The wife is looking and I'm trying to reseach the vehicle.

I posted about Land Rovers a couple months ago and you don't hear too many good things about them. I did end up getting an 03 Discovery II and am really pleased so far.

The LR3's are nicer than the II's, still get horrible gas mileage, expensive to repair, and are still British even though Ford owns them. I don't think the LR3 has the unique styling the DII had, but more powerful engine, better transmission, just all around nicer now. It is nice having a vehilce that you don't see that many of around... I was going to get a Cherokee, but I see 5 within a mile all day long around here.

Why the folks are in Italy, I took the RR in for service (and they still fucking have it since Monday, idiots).

Anyway, I've been driving an LR3 loaner for 4 days (white SE)....not a V8

I've driven the V8 before though, that's the one I would get.

But overall, I'm not a big fan.......whoever designed the interior was drunk at the time.

Other choices out there for the $.

We have an LR3 at the company and so far no issues... As with Land Rover, i'd had 2 Land Rovers HSE's and only had minor problems that where covered under warranty.

As for the interior, its all about personal taste, I like it... typical British styling, its a case of you either like it or you don't.

I am the proud owner of an '05 LR3 HSE. The car is british so it has it's quirks but other then that it is a truly amazing vehicle. If you are looking for offroad capability nothing can touch this vehicle except highly modded trucks/etc. The traction control system alone makes this thing capable of some really neat stuff even without the optional rear locker. PM me if you want some links to some LR boards that talk about the pros and cons of this vehicle.

The V8 engines are basically Jag engines. They should be more reliable than the old LR engines. The LR3 is still called the Discovery in Europe. They changed the name in the US to keep it away from the Discovery's past reputation of being unreliable.

LR3 is pretty dope... a friend of mine has one and we use it whenever there's a big group of us going anywhere.

Comfy, though I bet the gas milage is awful. (as is most any other car in its class)

It's definately better than the Disco II. Drive the Disco on the highway at anything over 65 mph, you will see your life flash by your eyes.
The new LR3 is a heck of a lot better, though I would prefer the V8 over the 6 anyday, even though it isn't that much more powerful. It's just a lot more smooth. I would have considered one myself, but my wife didn't want something so big. Other than that, my secretary does have a V6 SE7 that's seen the service department 5 times in the last month because of a check engine light that keeps turning on, and the dealers keep thinking they solved the problem but it just comes back a few days later.
