The Q5, when loaded out, is almost the same price as a A6 Avant if you can believe it.

I just didn't know if it worked for the B8s or if they changed the bus type again.

Well, for $100 it's a hell of a lot cheaper than sensors and does a lot more stuff... Is that all I need, this thing and a laptop?

Yeah, I didn't want an SUV, but if I wanted one the Q5 would have been the top pick. The Q5 is shorter but taller and wider. It has a V6 but it does 0-60 in the same time as the Avant. It uses more gas, and costs a bit more. Dealer probably also won't drop the price as much for a Q5, they seem to sell well.

Although I'm not familiar with the various connection types, it states at this link:

http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/index.html

that:

Is fully compatible with all VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda models through 2009, including models using a direct CAN connection for diagnostics*.
A full system runs about $250 I think that includes the software and particular cable you need for your car.

The toughest part of the whole thing is learning how to read the codes and then set them without messing them up IMHO.

True, but even still, although AudiZine does have DIY threads about using vag-com and stuff, it doesn't do a good job explaining it all.

It just lists a bunch of codes forms and their acceptable values.

did you get Bang + Ofsen? If you don't turn off the stereo before you turn the car off, it will resume when it turn it back on. Congrats btw

I have the standard stereo. Someone told me that I was actually just muting it, you have to hold the power button for 1 second to turn it off.

The RNS-E is the same. single click for mute, hold down for a couple seconds to turn off. Did you notice if the display ever turned off completely when you hit the button before? If not, you were muting the system.

I was thinking the same thing and skipping the TPMS sensors when I buy news wheels and snows for my Ody. BUT... if the TPMS warning light comes on, VSA cannot be disabled. That's the last thing I want in winter. Having a TSX you know how bad VSA is in the deep stuff.

Make sure nothing similar happens on the Audi.

And beautiful ride. Love the colour.

Really, you needed to turn off VSA in winter conditions? I had some pretty bad snow but never needed to resort to that.

And my Avant has 4 wheels drive, so I don't expect any issues.

I pretty much made up my mind, I'm getting just 4 19" winter tires and I'm swapping them every season on my OEM rims. I called a few wheel/tire shops and they all said there's no issue with repeatedly mounting and dismounting tires. There's a place next to my Costco that does it for $20/wheel and it's usually an hour if you drop in in the evening, it's really not that inconvenient.

The VSA is dangerous as hell in the winter, when you go to pull out into traffic in the deep stuff it cuts the power because of some light wheel spin, but with a full winter you need to be able to spin the wheel a bit to pull you through it. It's a catch 22 for sure, as it works really well if you get a little squirrely if you hit ice, or a particularly large rut changing lanes.

Beautiful car. So much more attractive than a lot of other wagons but I can't get over how big it is now. Other than the 3.0T, why would anyone get an A6 Avant?

But the A3 is already an awesome car too.

Have you considered tinting the windows? That would make it look even sleeker.

I did but I see some cars out there with tinting that bubbles up after a few years... I'm afraid that it might not last. I never had tinting done before.

most reputable tint shops will have lifetime warranty against bubbling/peeling
