Just test drove the Caddy XLR

My grandma is #2 on the list in florida to get her XLR, and it was supposed to be here at the end of the month, but now caddy is making engineers drive 1,000 miles on 70 off the line XLR just to make sure it is bulletproof.

Well, basically the car from the outside looks pimp, the stock stereo is amazing, the nav is nice, the interior is nice and its an excellent car.

Based on my experience driving it:

The steering wheel was kinda loose not to tight steering, which I didnt like that much. The brakes were fair, not cross drilled or slotted, and for some reason for a car with 50/50 weight distribution it kinda of felt very heavy around the turns, I pushed it pretty hard, but it just didnt seem like it handled as well as I guess I expected. Overall its an excellent car though, and it was fast. The exhaust did not sound good though. I also have some pics if u guys wanna see it.

Dang, so it is still attracting old people. Caddy wants young people. Only old people that think they are young buy em, like Lincoln LSs. And well, rappers or wankstas.

Though I must say, that CTS-V is awesome, IMO.

yes its not a true sports car IMO even tho it has 50/50 weight distribution RWD. It just seemed to heavy around the corners to me, and it attracts older people cuz its still very luxury and not all speed. I also didnt like the thing that projects your speed of the car in your windshield while your driving, its weird. The sound system was kick ass though.

You meant the HUD (Heads Up Display). It takes some getting use to but once you have it and are use to it, many find it hard to go away from.

This vehicle is meant to compete with the likes of the SC430 which certainly is not a sports car. It is a high priced touring convertible and IMO, Cadillac hit the spot dead on.

XLR just beat MB, Jag and Mazer and was second only to 911 in a major mag test (R&T?). Must be a great car.

I work at Capital Cadillac. We test drove the xlr and the srs. The XLR right now has a overheating issue. There is also something wrong with the truck, sometimes opening and closing issues. But that is it that we have problems with. What is good is:

there is no door handles (a button in the hole)
the trunk is fully auto (open/close)
there is no spare because it is not needed
auto shift
nav
ect ect.

The only thing is that if the truck and the auto doors don't work properly it will be expensive as hell to fix.

My good friend sold his Catera for a GS 400 cause it had too many lil quality issues. That and while I get a ES 300 or RX loaner, he gets a Cavalier or a Grand Am.

Well that is a Catera and should not be confused with the current Cadillac versions. The Catera was just slightly better than the Cimmeron.

I won't say that I'm a big Cadillac (or GM) fan, but my Dad drove one in the 1970s forever. He finally got rid of it at about 275000 miles. He got some really good use out of it without significant time in the shop.

Major repairs -- only one -- new transmission somewhere between 100-150Kmiles. We did a lot of mountain driving (to vacation home) in this sucker. I think we were partly to blame for it because the fluid was never changed.

Apart from the 14 MPG (with A/C on) it was a pretty good tank, I mean car.

Big. Luxurious. Powerful. Drove like a boat.

The Catera was a re-badged Opel, not a Cadillac.

Some brands just have the image that attracts older people than some other brands. But I gotta say the newest Cadillacs have improved substantially in styling, CTS, XLR, Escalade, and SRX are all much better looking than other Cadillac vehicles used to look.

the reason that mercedes benz always has the type of door handles it has used for years, and will "always" use (according to mercedes benz engineering) is safety, with a reach through handle you can provide more leverage in case of accident and people are trying to open the doors, makes sense, look at alot of high priced cars, they have similar door handles, they can keep the push button, in another note, i drove a sl55 the other day it was in for service, what a beautiful throaty exhaust note it produced, but if your into exhaust sounds, listen to a G55, with its side pipes it sounds awsome, very load and throaty growl

the new caddy looks pimp though

So would I, but the SL is quite a bit more expensive.

I think its hot. But for that coin, I would get a CTSV and mod the hell out of it.
