Just lost over 900lbs.

I know I had been talking about getting an Elise for a while, well I pussed out and got a S2k. Traded the G in today and babied the S home, the road I live on is not cleaned well. My brother also picked up a new S2k, by picking up two of them in this weather we both got great deals, which is why I did it instead of the elise, if I don't like it I can trade it in with in a year and it will cost me next to nothing to drive the car. I don't drive much these days so I think I will be happy with this and have an easier car to live with when I need to use it as a normal car. It worked out to be about $10k less then the elise, that was for an 06 elise with low miles, compared to a new S2k with no miles. Its a dark silver color, and I like a lot of the subtle changes they made, in particular the seats, they have red stitching and no longer have that hole in the head rest and I like the 08 wheels. When it gets a little nicer out I will take some pictures, but in the mean time it looks pretty much like every other S2000 you've seen.

My brothers is black and it felt a touch gay buying the same car as my brother, in particular when the salesman addressed us as Mr. and Mr. iTimmy 26 miles on her now and still no vtec engagement

Congrats!I've been very tempted to pickup an S2k myself. I have yet to drive one and experience that gearbox and vtec engine together. The S2000 will be much more user-friendly in your everyday commute than the Elise you wanted to pick up.
Enjoy her in good health.

Very nice job.

As for the snow, time to pick up some early S2000 wheels on ebay and put snow tires on 'em.

Nice pick up. Wish I could fit in one. TheMirror has a good idea getting some snow tires. I wonder how studded ones would do on it? My friend used to have studded snow tires on his cougar back in the day. He was crazy and kept them on the whole summer after and used to kick sparks up when he took off. I'm rambling. Anyway, nice dd.

Congrats on the car. I hope you don't plan on driving in the snow with summer tires. Do you mind if I ask how much you paid? I'm thinking about picking up a new one in a few months. Also how do you figure trading it in within a year and losing no money?

When I say daily driver its a slightly different meaning from most peoples daily driver. I typically drive under 500 miles a month, in winter much less. I don't work, and can plan around the weather, I'm not worried at all about the cold, its ice and snow on the roads that concerns me. The only reason I drove it today, was because I picked it up from the dealership, leaving parking lot alone was scary(it wasn't cleared well) so I babied it home. I have no plans on driving this in snow, I will borrow some ones car or rent a car in the event I need to go in crappy weather, which is unlikely.

My brothers deal was 500 under invoice, my deal was my old car(07 infiniti G35x, premium pack with 17k on it) plus $1500, it was just too good for me to pass up - my deal included tax, dmv fees, etc... If we didn't get two they wouldn't have budged off invoice price on my brothers. I know what your thinking, he said he drives under 500 miles a month, but put 17k on a G35 in a year, but my situation changed about 5 months ago, 15k+ of that was put on during my first 7 months of ownership when I was working. The way it looks, is they gave me a little over 30k in trade, which is VERY generous and the reason I did the deal, if I waited to spring they would have done low 20's. Unless you find a motivated dealer or buy a few cars(my mother bought a civic from the same salesman the previous month) I think its going to be hard to beat invoice, which is around the mid 31k range, I don't remember the exact figure. I don't plan on trading this in any time soon, it seems to be the type of car that suits my life well and should be a fairly cheap car for me to drive, which pleases my jewish side

Right now nothing, if I find I have to drive in bad weather I probably will pick up a set of AP1 wheels and put some nokians on it, but I'd rather not if I can get by with out driving in the ugly weather. I'd also like to move out of the north east sooner then later, this may be motivation for me.

Even though the G is heavy, its not that big, the new Accord(08) had more interior room(front and rear) and a WAY bigger trunk. I'm 6' tall and the text book of example of average build, so the S2k is fine for me in terms of space. Ever since I was thinking of going to a smaller coupe I had been paying attention how often I drove with passengers, 95% of the time it is just me or one passenger, and I think someone else can drive that other 5% of the time, or we can take two cars.

Join the club; 6'3" FTL here. I got my right leg in one once at a 45° angle and nearly got it stuck under the steering wheel, so I tried backing out of it nearly falling on my ass in the dealer parking lot. After that incident I just admitted to myself I was too tall and too fat and moved on to a coupe with rear seats.

Wait, so you don't work? Are you in between jobs or are you on disability?

I would have a tough time justifying such a (relatively) expensive car without a source of income.

I recently sold my business and am more or less retired, my job now is managing the money, which is what I used to do in addition to running a business so its fairly easy for me to keep on top of. One of my good friends, my mentor, is a retired CFP, and I run things by him before I make rash decisions. I was planning on doing more property development because I find it to be interesting, but right now there is very little money in mid sized projects(in the 8-9 figure range) and I can make more with out the headaches by investing in areas that are flourishing and simply keeping my eye on them.

Believe it or not this was a "downgrade" for me in terms of price, MSRP on the G was $37k+ and the S2000 MSRP was $34k+ I also believe the S2000 will be a cheaper car to own/drive. My last tank of gas on the G was the worst tank to date, since I stopped doing a lot of highway driving my fuel economy has dropped dramatically. Buying a $100k car would have been a dumb move for me, this is actually under "budget."

Congrats! Nice choice. It is a good time of year to pick one up. I saw some new 2007's stickered at $28900, so I'm sure you could get even more off that.

That's why I did it, the sales manager thought we were just screwing with him, when he realized we were serious he about jumped for joy. That's why I made out so good with my trade, trading in a sport/luxury AWD sedan in on a 2 door convertible when its snowing out is probably the best you can shift things in your direction.

I saw a left over 06 for $26k, left over 07s where in the $28k range, for the little bit extra I got mine for it was worth it to get the 08 changes, after all its not often they change much on these cars! The new seats are a much better looking, traction control and new wheels are all worth under $2k to me.

Congrats

I thought you had massive lipo or something. But post pics, snowy or not, we all love pics! Perhaps I missed it, but what color did you get? Show me in the pics.

Amazing how you can be retired at age 26 and still go out and get a nice car (downgrade or not). I'm sure an S2000 is much more fun to drive. How do you manage your money anyway?

Thanks!

Massive lipo? as in liposuction???? For the record the only surgery I've ever had was my wisdom teeth removed. The car is in my garage, I'll get a few pics up, in the mean time I think its a new color for 08, its called Chicane silver - its now the only silver and in between Silverstone and the other one.

Just because I don't work/have a job doesn't mean I don't have income. How I manage money is another story all together and right now I'm not sure I want to divulge, my plan is to develop a track record(so far I'm right on course) of making 30+% annually, when I've done that for a number of years I want to approach a bank about borrowing a large sum(8 figures or bust) as a business loan, and make the difference. It may require a bit more time and management from me, but I would make up to $2m/ year more, then again if the bank is pain in the ass I certainly don't need the loan and don't want to take shit. But one thing I've learned is when you don't need money banks are dying to give it to you, but when you need it you can't get it.

I didn't lose 900lbs, but rather gained 2800lbs. I kept my '07 TL-S 6-spd and bought a leftover '06 S2000. They blew it out the door at $9K under MSRP with just 68 miles on the clock. S2000's aren't hot sellers in the winter here in Chicago. My baby is sitting in my 3rd garage bay and will get limited use until spring. Now I can't wait for warmer weather.

Here are a few pics:

Yeah, they are pretty similar overall. The '06-07 ones have a polished aluminum front edge and more spokes, but overall not a huge change for '08. Were you tempted by the '08 S2000 CR?

The 08 has a more plain 5 spoke wheel, it looks very different, I'll try to get some pics up today.

The CR didn't do anything for me, the wing is terrible, the interior is hideous in my opinion, I like the speedster humps and the hard top, but I don't like the fact that it doesn't have a soft top(to the best of my knowledge). Not to mention it costs more and A/C and a radio become an option.

I know what your rims look like. I just meant that with all the unique rims out there, the '08 rims are not a huge departure for Honda.

I agree with you on the CR. It is a little too much "boy racer" for me. I also like the idea of having a power soft top for quick opening/closing. The CR is only a removable hardtop that you would have to store in your garage. That would end up dented in no time! And as much as I seriously love to drive, I can't have a car without A/C or a radio. What does that save...like 100lbs total? Not worth it!
