Just got a traffic ticket, What to do...

I am in California and was just pulled over for driving on the carpool lane.

These tickets are about $300, so I just want to know what my options are once I get the fine in the mail.

Thanks for any advice.

I was driving on the carpool lane, I saw the police ahead, so I switched to the correct lane. The police slowed down and once I got ahead of him, he came behind me and turned on his lights.

By "dispute", would I just say "I was not on the carpool lane"? or would something like "i had to switch to the carpool lane because I was almost hit by someone changing lanes without looking" be good?

Aww man that sucks....good luck to you. I've always wondered how you would get caught doing this, since I myself am a guilty party cuz I do it every so often.

Do you have tint? Since I do I think I would have just kept goin on it, maybe our headrest being so big, would have fooled him.

Jesus Christ! Another damn victim. Pay the $$$ and stay out of the carpool lane unless you have the correct number of people in the car. But with this post I assume you cannot count that high.

You earned the ticket so just pay it. Don't even try to come up with an excuse for this because it's pretty obvious that the cop saw you cruising in the carpool lane. If you go to court and lie about it, it's only going to make it worse. Pay the ticket and be done with it.

Does the carpool lane have a set time for it to be considered carpool? Or is it at all times, even at 2am is it CARPOOL ONLY?

In CA, as far as I can recall, the carpool lane is the carpool lane at any time of the day.

Doesn't seem like a violation you can fight. He saw you, he ticketed you. Be a man and pay the fine.

1. you got ticketed for driving in the carpool lane by yourself. i don't believe there's any leeway on this law.

2. tint on the front windows is illegal in california.

and btw guys i dont know why everybody is telling him to pay the ticket. i mean its normal for someone to dispute the ticket even if they were guilty. plus its not like a meter ticket for $60. its $300.

Because if he fights it, not only will he pay the $371 fine, but he will also then have to pay the court fees. It's a carpool lane ticket, not much to dispute here

www.google.com
www.yahoo.com

although, it was probably easier for him as the link he posted was in a post not to long ago

It's simple. He was a dumbass, he got caught, he should deal with it. If you're expecting sympathy because you did something stupid, you picked the wrong group of people to whine to...

I noticed that you can drive Solo in carpool lanes only if you drive a Hybrid Vehicle like Prius etc. ? It could be just out in Cali but not everywhere that has carpool lanes?

true, but you have to register for a special pass, and I think they finally hit the quota a month or two back (10,000)

The other day I was sitting in traffic. There were tons of people cruising by me with no passengers ( btw I hate people who do this because I sit 3+/- hours of traffic round trip a day ).

So we get to an area where the carpool lane ends and theres a huge shoulder lane on the left of the carpool lane, I see over 10 cars lined up getting tickets. There were several CHP cars and they were simply flagging down people who were driving by themselves in the carpool lane.

$371 fine should be raised to an even $500

It's real simple.

He played. He pays.

He knew he wasn't supposed to be driving in the car pool lane solo. He knew it was against the law to do so. He still did it.

It's a freaking game. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose.

However, there's never much sympathy for a whiney player who got caught and doesn't want to pay.

Pay the damn ticket already.

21 years old and you still can't spell thoroughly/bored correctly. maybe instead of learning about search engines like google and yahoo you should spend a little time on www.dictionary.com before you speak on a public forum.
