So, I really had good intentions when posting that topic a few months back! :tomato:

We were just looking for a nice beach cruiser that we could drive back and forth (and while down there) since our trucks get awful gas mileage (lifted and larger wheels/tires will do that) and we like to give my wife's car a break on the weekends. Well, it kind of escalated from there. Oh yeah, and remember it had to be an automatic? :chuckle:

Enjoy the pics. These are the sellers pics. I'll get some on our property once I have it detailed (very dusty from shipping) and these storms move out.

Pic from delivery last night. The shipping company got held up b/c of the storms in the mid-west and got delayed almost two days. Instead of arriving Monday, they arrived last night. Like middle of the night. Like I got it in the garage at 2am...

Holy shit snacks, that car is gorgeous. Congrats!

Year/mileage/RMS or IMS fixed/etc?!

That.

Looks like an 01 or 02 I think. Don't think I've ever seen a removable hardtop on one.

SlowLane 04-30-2014 10:56 AM

Wow. That is a beautiful beach cruiser. Congratulations.

BeezleTL85 04-30-2014 11:05 AM

Nice moves

Thanks guys!! :D

Yeah, I kind of fell in love with it when I saw the ad. My racing kart from last year sold a few weeks ago and we have the buggy for sale... so my wife said let's just go for it. It's pretty loaded (upgraded turbo HID headlights, LED tails, hard top, fully upgraded Focal audio with iPad in dash, turbo aero kit, 19" wheels, new convertible soft top (replaced in 2012), plus Porsche options (Comfort, Technic, Heated Seats), etc...

It's a 2002 996. Mileage is 84,xxx but it has a new drivetrain. So new engine (donor car had 18k on it) with IMS/RMS retro fit installed. They also did the water pump, motor mounts, A/C compressor (plus recent recharge), alternator, AOS, etc. before they put the engine in. Also has a new clutch, resurfaced flywheel, new spark plugs, etc. So it's pretty up to date. I have all paperwork for all work, plus the car fax from the donor car. Also came with a bunch of original parts, plus 2 almost new front tires (not mounted).

Shipped from Arizona, found it on 6speedonline.

Couldn't mess with it too much last night since it was after 2am and I was tired, so hopefully this afternoon.

Wow. Just shows that patience pays off. That car sounds awesome. I hope you get a long time of enjoyment out of it.

Thanks! It was a good deal. I wasn't really looking specifically for a Porsche, but saw this and just fell for it. I was a little nervous at first b/c of the engine, but the guy had all documentation, plus I talked to the shop that did the work, plus got a PPI at a dealer in Arizona. Not only did they send me their report, but then the service manager called me after he emailed it to me and we went through it line by line together. All around good transaction. Looking forward to cleaning it up, getting it registered, and driving it!

Yeah, shipping took a while! I booked the shipper on Easter (4/20), but it didn't get picked up until Friday (4/25). But they made good time coming here.

The hardtop was a cool feature. It also has a rolling hardtop rack and hardtop cover that he shipped with the car... so that is nice as well.

Congrats JB, looks great.

juniorbean 05-01-2014 08:42 AM

Thanks all! Getting ready to do some basic maintenance (oil change, fluids, etc) just so I have a starting off point. After that a detail and clear bra and that will probably be it for now...

They are 808 wheels.

That's pretty crazy. This wasn't a 100% planned purchase, but when I saw it, I loved it. When I showed my wife, she did too... so it worked out well :)

Thanks again for all of your help. I ended up using someone else. The seller needed it cleared out and your shipper didn't have availability for a few days later... so used a guy from uShip. Worked out well though as they were great.

I was wondering if you'd see this thread. Thanks! Always wanted a Porsche, so I'm thrilled to finally have one.

Nice ride

:cheers:Congrats!

My brother has a 2004 996 convertible black/black.
Great car, love driving it when I visit him.
Highly recommended to join Renntech, I've worked on it some and they have great tech info there.

dallison 05-01-2014 10:34 AM

I'm glad you got an 02 with all of the updates. Now go out and buy a trickle charger for that thing. You'll need it for the longer periods of time where you don't use it. A battery should last you about 3-4 years.

RPhilMan1 05-01-2014 12:36 PM

That looks fantastic, and I bet it is a blast to drive. Very nice choice!

Did it already. Both Renntech and Rennlist. Already downloaded a few DIY maintenance guides so I can check the fluids, replace some filters, and change the oil. As mentioned above, this will give me a good starting off point so I can track my own maintenance from there.

Already have one! I have a few from racing (the karts I raced last year had batteries but no charging system) so when I read about the trickle chargers, I was happy I already had one accessible. :D

Haha... yeah. The fact that it will get better mileage than our trucks will be offset by its need for premium fuel. :ignore:

Oh and I may or may not have mentioned to my wife it gets 23-25mpg highway... :smirk:

RaviNJCLs 05-02-2014 12:33 PM

Something tells me you failed at keeping it to sub-$15K.

Congrats.
