If so, exhaust is a MUST for your X mas gift. What good is a dirt cheap old car, if you can't at least hear it.

To each his own, but I think an E46 M3 sounds best with a restrained aftermarket exhaust system - any E46 M3 I've heard with cats removed or mid-mufflers deleted sounded raspy and overall like ass.

11 pages, and great info, including how to get rid of rasp, since you don't like it.

So? You would have a hot Caddy with proper sounding exhaust, and be on the prowl for the next hottie...

Just got back from a week of no cell or internet and got all caught up on this thread. Lots of good stuff going on in here! Glad to hear JB is going to make it his own.
JB, I didn't get around to doing rod bearings, back when I was looking at that it was on pre-2003 engines. Can always do a blackstone oil analysis and see if there are any findings.

If I am JB, I would do an oil analysis.
Though the pre 03 cars, bmw took care of the bearings, 06-08 s54 in the z4m has had rod bearing problems too
at the mileage this car has, oil analysis would be good idea to keep on top of it

The mods for E46 M3 is endless.... if you decided to go that route....
I personally would only do mods that are easily reversible... the value for those M3 is going up... especially a clean one like yours.

JB - driving impressions?
I've personally never driven one but I'd be curious to hear what your thoughts are on it.

No. That thread was great for info, but didn't really give me an answer. I'll take some time, listen to some in person at some meets, and go from there.
After looking at more and more photos, I'm going to stick to the original plan of keeping it subtle. Carbon/Exterior bits and some bolt-ons for a little extra power. Very excited about it myself

Guessing: CF trunk lip spoiler & CF front lip?
