It's The "WTF is This Tool For" Thread...

I inherited by default, a zillion tools from my Father; 30 years ago. And some I've pushed around, looking for a screwdriver or something I easily recognize. So, now before, some day, I pass them along; I want to know their function.

I must have atleast 60 plyer–of different sizes and types. I'm soaking a bag-full in WD40, to loosen them up.

'A' looks like it would compress something big-given the clearance of the 'C' shape.

A is a valve spring compressor. It's used for your typical pushrod engine. The "cup" part goes on the bottom of the valve and the forks on top go on either side of the spring retainer. When the spring is compressed the retainer clips are removed then the whole valve / spring / retainer can be removed from the head.

word of caution - don't let it slip off while it's compressing the spring. Lots of excitement happens then.

Jeez, my dad was under more cars than I could count; everything from his '57
porche, Citroen, '55 Belaire, Simca, English Ford, he even bought a '65 Gryphon(?)-'til my mother screamed at him to get his money back, so, I'm assuming they're car related.

B kinda looks like an older version of a ball joint/tie rod separator.

edit - it might be a steering wheel puller.

Yup, A is a valve spring compressor.

And B is a jaw type puller, most likely for pulleys.

The first one looks like an old piston clamp or vise grips first design for an adjustable c clamp. The second one is definitely a pully puller.

Cool thread topic. More exhibits please.

B is a puller, you could probably use it for more than 1 purpose. I.E. Steering wheel removal, pulling pulleys, and possibly some suspension parts.

Labeled pocket size. Weird; plastic-but feels like dense cardboard.

YOU just had to reply first, didn't you?

You know..... MAYBE if you ghetto rigged a suction cup onto it....

but no, its not for dents. It is a puller though. you thread one end into the stubborn part of choice, then if needed you thread another one into another spot. the handle part is like a big weight.... pull both back towards you fast at the same time, and out comes the stubborn part.

You can get different ends that screw on to make it more adaptable.
