issue with 2002 Nissan Maxima

issue with 2002 Nissan Maxima

i know this isnt a nissan forum but i got a problem with which i need help


i was drivin my max to school today and noticed a jackhammer type noise coming from the front passenger side of the car
i believe it has to do with the wheel
the thing is, when i accelerate, theres no noise, but when i let go of the gas it sounds like someone is usin a jackhammer like 50 feet away and theres a squeaking sound coming also
this only happens when im cruising and braking
while accelerating or taking a corner, theres no noise

can anyone please help me out with this situation?
i got 3 exams tomm and i need the car to get to school
dont wanna end up stranded

i appreciate any and all help


EDIT: its only when im driving in a straight line, not when turning or taking corners

...never had that problem with my 5.5G. Might want to check on the .org (Maxima.org).

I've seen a fair amount of wheel bearings go bad on maxima of that era, it can be hard to diagnos because for some reason its not obvious on that car. I've never seen a CV(half) shaft go bad on one of those. I have seen caliper bracket bolts break, and of course you should check to make sure the wheel is properly secured.

What your descibing I've only experienced once, the lower bolts on the strut were not tightened properly and it caused a tremendous vibration at cruising speed that continued until the vehicle was stopped. The vibration was so bad that the glove box actually popped open on the test drive, if struts have been done recently I would check that as well.
