Isn't a TL a little more on par with a 5 series BMW.. sizewise
#2
It would seem like it...and the RL would be on par w/ the 7. But the CL and TL are practically the same size.
Wouldn't it make sense for BMW to have a 5 and 7 series coupe also?

Yes, in comparison to the 540, my CL-S does have longer overhangs, and similar if not a longer wheelbase . Albeit the overhand consists of largely empty space for aerodynamic purposes specially in the front. The rear overhang is just for the cosmetic rounder look (which I prefer).
Overall, the CL-S's dimensions are larger than the 540.
