Lexus. All new car with over 300 HP. I for one am not a fan of the new 3 series.

I realize everyone who went to the Taste of Lxus still said the 330 was better overall, but not by much.

I personally would take the Lexus. ESPECIALLY when they offer a manual in it.

I think its a sexier car overall, the service is outstanding, and I know it will be more reliable in the long run.

I did go to the Taste of Lexus and drove them both. My dad was looking to buy one or the other. My assessment: while the IS is faster, it lacked that "je na say quoi." It was fast, but it wasn't really any fun. The BMW was much more engaging. I really enjoyed driving it and felt very confident hauling butt in it. The Lexus as was more abrupt (due to its higher power), but it wasn't particularly confidence inspiring.

My dad has placed his order for the 330.

That works out well for me as I'm taking his CTS-V....

I'd take the lexus IF it came with a 6spd, but it doesn't yet....

It's really a tossup... I don't like the new 330 styling (the e46 was better looking IMHO), but it comes with a six speed. Maybe the New 3 Series Styling will grow on me when I start seeing more of them on the streets

Lexus. The slight edge of the 3 in handling won't make up for its ugly looks and questionable reliability.

I'd go with the Lexus because of service and Toyota's well known reliability.

BMW, more fun to drive and has a history of proving itself worthy over and over.

Didnt the IS300 have this same type of impact when it was first released... look how well that turned out.

BMW. I don't know what it is, it just feels like it has more soul, you feel more in control. IS350 is nice too though and looks better IMO. But fun > looks.

no 'real' transmission on the IS350 is a deal-breaker in my books. Plus a more useable back seat in the bimmer. German cars tend to have the intangibles when it comes to driving experience, but since I haven't driven both, I can't comment on it. Everything else goes to the Lexus.

So 330i it is...

overall, the IS350 would b my pick...looks better inside and out, more power........but the 330 is no doubt the better "sports" car....i still hate the 330's styling and and the interior jus looked and felt nasty

i say wait and see if the IS350 will come with manual option later on

BMW.

I've driven both.

Why? Lexus steering is loose, Lexus drives you. BMW is a handling machine. You are dialed in when you hold the wheel. A good, know how driver will pick the BMW everytime in this comparison.

If you only care about Luxury, get the Lexus.

That's EXACTLY what I meant. I went to the taste in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. The IS350 is a nice car, but it doesn't give me that drivers feel of a BMW.

Maybe I'm biased, but it was the same feeling when I was thinking about trading in my 540i for a GS400. The Lexus just doesn't give me that "in control" feeling that a BMW does. The BMW is just a drivers car. Lexus feels more luxury oriented. I'd choose the Lexus for trips, but BMW to have fun with/own.

or build quality. That aside, the E90 in general is a SWEET ride. Heck! Even C/D managed to pull an upper 14 second ET out of the 225hp/185lb-ft E90 325i 6MT.

I went into the Taste of Lexus event biased against the 3-series and left feeling that it's the best car in its class.

The new IS puts the old one to SHAME but it falls short of having the balance of the E90. (IMHO, the G35S comes pretty close though.) Although the E46's place was a little shaky in it's final iteration, the E90 has firmly staged itself as the benchmark.
