Internet Sales vs Floor Sales
On a different note, I just sold my first car, at sticker. Not too bad for day 4.

Sold one of these
Good luck. There were 67 email exchanges between myself and the dealer when I purchased my 911. Kept all of them LOL, was worth it though, much easier than haggling in person. Even the PPI was negotiated and reported via email. I can't stand haggling in person and time is money.
Depends, do you want to deal with jack offs from the comfort of your desk or on the lot? Depends how much freedom your managers give you, too. I've had both positions over the past 7 years and while Internet is much more work it suits me better. I can concentrate on leasing, follow-up, have more freedom, and can set my own pace and don't have to worry someone will come off the street and waste two hours of my time putting me behind working on real deals.
That said, I have real respect for the floor guys grinding it out every day though but the temptation on the floor is just to depend on walk-ins.

That said, this job DOES require a lot of time, it's only my second week on the floor and have been averaging 70hr weeks.
I had a nice customer today. that I had to drive 30 miles to pick up, since her car's motor is dead. Spent a good portion of the day with her, but we got the sale and sold the ridiculous $2k extended warranty... double win
My best month was my first (back in '93) ... 13 cars that month. Next best month was nine cars ... The more I learned about the business the worse I did because I liked it less and less. I lasted nine months.
I hope the business has changed. I doubt it has as a rule but maybe there are a few shops that don't try to outright fleece every person that buys a car there.
Sales is not an easy job for a variety of reasons. Good luck to all the guys in this thread that do it for a living.

70 hours per week seems excessive but I guess you're cutting your teeth and learning the ropes. You can't keep those kind of hours up for more than 6 months. You should be pulling in 15k per month with that kind of time. If not, go high line once you have enough experience.
Good luck to you.
I have a fortune cookie fortune on my monitor that says:
Don't learn the tricks of the trade, learn the trade.

Thought I would drop in and tell you all how it is going.
I have been averaging about 62 hours a week, plus doing a little bit from home on my days off.
I have been getting fresh leads since the 6th and have sold 7 cars. My last deal, I got what they call a "pounder". That's when you make over a thousand bucks on one deal.
Everyone says I am off to fast start. I feel like I am, and I hope it continues. Can't wait to see my next check, especially with that pounder on there.
I hope the hours don't start to wear on me. If my income can justify the hours, I think I can stay positive.

I had a lol with my managers when I was interviewing a woman and she wanted an AWD 7 passenger minivan that was great on gas with lots of power. hmm, nope. I have 200 cars and 4 brands and I can't do that, no one can. When I approached her she was hot on the Armada
The biggest gas guzzler I have. Yeah that's not a van, but she wasn't that bright, The husband knew she was nuts, but she was obviously the one wearing the pants.
You're doing better than me, I dont even want to say how many I've sold. If you get 10 here, you're doing good. At this rate I'm hoping for 5 this month to pay the rent. It is tough staying positive, it's a very bipolar business. You definitely have to believe in yourself and just stay positive. I've learned, if you think about to hard, you'll go down. That all said it's a tough market, people want fuel economy and price point.

^ Just don't take it too personally and you'll be good. Most people are stupid... nothing you can do to fix or change that. So again, don't take it personally. Give them what they want (or what they think they want), treat them with respect, and you'll be golden. If someone feels like they have been taken care of and their expectations have been met, they will be very happy... as will you, b/c now you have a happy customer who will hopefully send some referrals
Sounds like you're doing well. Don't let the Jacks get you down. There are a lot of angry people out there I just don't give them the power to make me feel that way. Let them go off and be unhappy.
