interesting stuff from the JDM Legend press release...

http://www.honda.co.jp/news/2004/4041007-legend.html

they mentioned about the 300hp V6...you may ask "so what?" WELL, this is the first time in awhile a Japanese car company have broke the "280ps/hp" mark under the current "agreement". Does that mean anything to the Japanese market?

the stats page:

you can look at the Japanese Subaru and Toyota websites, all cars you have mentioned are rated 280hp. But we all know those engines are "underrated" because of the "280hp agreement"(any expert here can explain it? I don't know too much about the agreement.)

The "gentleman's agreement" has been terminated by the Japan Automobile Manufacturer Association not to long. The RL is the first car to break that agreement. Yes, other manufacturers have underrated their engines, but always had to list it as 280hp.

There are a couple of reasons going around why it was terminated. The two most common ones was:

1. Imported cars didn't have to follow the agreement. Which kind of undermined the whole thing.

2. It limited Japanese manufacturers to build performance engines.

The whole thing was bogus. Anyone with any kind of brain knew the previous numbers were just that and didn't reflect reality. There was/is quite a bit of that on the bike side too - also .

I find it ironic the big 3 company with the smallest and weakest engines was the first to break the barrier with the Legend. Cause when Nissan and Toyota do it, 300 will be the bottom of the barrel.

Honda = king of HP
Nissan= king of Torque
Toyota= once the patent runs out, hell well take the best of both and make it ours!

Honda has always been the best in HP. Nissan has set itself as the best in torque. Toyota is/has been showing promise, but where's the fruit? Still nothing to show for. Well wait and see, then you can make comments. Afterall, we all probably thought the RL would never have had SH-AWD. Now look at it, it really has caught many people's eyes. That includes you, sicklex.

Dude, Honda is not the king of HP. The king of fuel economy yes. Remember, there was no Honda V-6 until what, 1995? And the only one between Honda and Acura was in the Legend.

If we are talking JDM here, well this includes Nissan badged Infiniti's and Toyota badged Lexus. Which means the 290hp NSX was the highest rated Honda until the 300hp RL.
The GT-R and Supra are just 2 examples are cars far exceeding that. Add in the V-8 cars and Honda is way behind in power.
Let's not go into mods.

hehe... The Japanese culture in it's entirety is based upon Korean (Han dynesty) and Chinese basis. Looking into the language, you see many modern Korean characters as well as Chinese caligraphy. Another example is the pottery and other art objects that are on display in museums. For nearly every Japanese pottery example, there is a Korean example that predates it.

That's how it worked in east asia... Chinese pass it along to Korea (since we were a satelitte nation), then the Japanese would get it from Korea (mostly by invading the lands).

The prime example for this is the the Japanese national treasure #1. It's a vase, some kind of pottery, that is almost a carbon copy of the Korean's.. Some researchers wonder if it's a replica or stolen from the Koreans.

No Honda V6 until 1995... hahaha, there were V6's in Hondas wayyyy before 1990.

Being over a decade old.. no Toyota or Nissan could ever match up to the NSX stock, please hold you RB26DETT comments and I'll show you some C32A Type R comments. Honda is the king of N/A HP in japan, 'NUFF SAID.

Now ask yourself this, what has Toyota done for car enthuasist besides scrap the only good sports car they had... the Supra? Honda and Nissan have done more for the image of japanese sports cars than Toyota ever has.

Say hello to the V10 RA000E, packing over 800HP.

Can you say NSX? I hope so.
