Interesting comment on the G35 from the LA Auto show...

Picked this up from freshalloy.com

"The rep told me he had no numbers as far as acceleration, but this is exactly what he said 'If u think the altima is fast, this thing is gona be a screaaamer!' hope he knew what he was talking about..."

A screamer, huh. If the Alti has been clocked at 5.9, what's in store for the the G35? Mid to high fives???

I dont know about the G35, but no way the 3.5L Alti does 5.9, i would say mid to high 6.

What happen to the 6-sp manual? Isn't G35 supposed to have one??

A peformance-oriented sport sedan without a stick. It's gonna suck like the IS did when it first came out...

From Motortrend:

"Let's start with the fun part: the kick-ass acceleration of the new V-6. With a ready 246 lb-ft of torque awaiting the call of your right foot, this unassuming sedan turns from econocar to hot rod in an instant, torque-steering you 0-60 mph in 6.28 sec and besting the new 345-hp Infinti Q45 by over two-tenths. Blazing through the quarter mile in 14.72 sec/96.82 mph lets you pick on Porsche's Boxster!"

I think it was the Motorweek TV show that clocked the 5.9 0-60, but I could be mistaken.

Well the premium package has the Sunroof, Bose Audio, and wood package I believe, plus some other items. The Winter Package (Sport) I have to assume is both but I don't know for sure.

Without Navi it's about $33k MSRP.

Wow its base price is about the same as 3.2TL. After adding the premium package, it would be pretty close to TL Type S. Man right now it's difficult to decide which near-luxury sedan to buy since there are so many choices. Look here are the brands and models I could think of that has a price above $26,000 and has a 6 cylinder engine:

Acura 3.2TL
Acura 3.2TL Type S
Lexus IS300
Lexus ES300
Lexus GS300
Infiniti I35
Infiniti G35
Audi A4 3.0
Audi S4
BMW 325i
BMW 330i
MB C320
Nissan Maxima SE/GLE

Hey I really think Acura should add one more sport sedan to compete against Lexus and Infiniti.

Hmm..

Ok so this thing is FWD???

Damn that's going to be a bitch, because I was reading somewhere about it being 260hp/260 ft #'s of torque.

The 260 ft. #'s of torque is going to be a bitch on an automatic.

Looked at Nissan-Infinity website today and it seemed to say G35 was only available with 5spd auto (with manual shift ability). Any confirms? No 6spd manual on this one???

I just plugged the G35 stats into Car Test and ran a standing start accelaration test:

260HP/260 lb. ft. torque
brake torqued to 2000 rpm
0-60 = 5.9
1320 = 14.6 @ 98.6

Suppossedly there is a performance package (NISMO) coming in Sept. '02 that will raise the HP to 280. I figured in a rise in torque to 270 for shits and giggles.

280HP/270 lb. ft. torque
brake torqued to 2000 rpm
0-60 = 5.7
1320 = 14.3 @ 100.7

Wow! Obviously this is just bullshit benchracing and not proven, but that second set of numbers is in 540i/GS430 territory. I for one am excited about the possibilities of this car!

Looks like they've gone to the BMW/JAGUAR school of pricing. Give you a reasonable base, and load up on the options. You could easily get it over 36 or 37k. I still like it though, especially if you got it with the 280h.p.

Hmm, pulled the information from the C&D information posted by Droideka above'

'torque-steering you 0-60 mph in 6.28 sec '

What the heck were they talking about here? I thought they were talking about the G35, so needless to say the whole 'Torque Steer' thing gave me the thought that it was going to be FWD (When was the last time you say a RWD car w/ Torque Steer problems )

Sorry, John. Should have qualified that. That quote was in rebuttal to Paul saying the Altima wouldn't hit low 6s. That's from tests with the 5MT '02 Altima in Motortrend.
