Integra Type R
Call me a noob. I saw one at my local Acura Dealer. 2000 Integra Type R like 40K miles for $24K. What is so special about this particular car? How come it holds its value so strong? Greatest car ever made?

ITR = one of the best (if not THE best) handling FWD car ever built. Add 195hp engine to slick tranny + really low weight and you get a really good performance car.
And with CLpower on the cult following, though it's a huge cult.

The RSX-S can pretty much match the ITR's performance, but it's refined nature definitely lacks the rawness of the ITR.
Incidentally, Mazda and Nissan used the ITR as a benchmark in developing the MS Protege and Spec V. Both fell short, although it's said that the MS Protege's handling abilities come remarkably close.
Similar sidenote: 99-00 Civic Si's go for about about $15-16k around my neighborhood.....or about $1-2k less than the original MSRP.

RSX can match it in acceleration maybe but not in handling. It was the BEST handling FWD cars of its time. I've driven an S and it does not handle as well as the ITR. The new ITR (Japan only) is apparently as good or better.
I've driven an ITR on 5 seperate occasions and each time I left amazed as well it handled, it was unbelievable.
But 24K is overpriced. It costs less than that in Canada using CAD funds.

According to KBB...the retail value should be somewhere between $14,000-16,000. If they are asking for $24,000 they are out of their damn mind. If it were new, good deal. But that car isn't worth that.

You are not going to find it less than 22K in our area...Bridgewater Acura always gets them with around 30-40K and always sells them for 22K-25K. Its a great car in and out. I've seen the car in action and would take it over a RSX-S anyday plus its better looking.

Especially i bought my TSX around $25K. They want $24K for that legend. I just looked and never ask about the real price they want to sell. They always price higher in dealer and may be wait for noob like me to buy it.

I like everyone's comments, pretty much correct. They are a stolen A LOT, so the insurance on them is crazy. I would like one, but since the insurance is what it is, I want to get a GSR with a type-r motor in it..pretty much the same car drivetrain-wise (except for the tranny). The interiors on these cars are rare too (black cloth w/red stitching). I was reading today and if your interior is stolen in your, say '97 Type-R, your car will be totalled. I will post some links to some sweet R's for sale..I have the links on my other computer.

I personally like my black leather in my GSR to the ITR interior. of course just personal taste.

my gf sold her 01 gsr...bought a 97 type r with less than 50k for little under 13k...driving both, the type r is definately a helluvalot more fun to drive =)
as far as the rsx-s...imo it would be a great car if honda didn't decide to get rid of the double wishbone suspension in front

I have to agree on just about everything. I had a '98 in Championship White (as all US ones were for that year) and compare that car's fun-to-drive rating with the old S2K. Take into consideration that the ITR is wrong-wheel-drive (though with a great LSD). That chassis is AWESOME. It is a car that can (with a well-instructed driver) can go from the showroom to SCCA auto-X winner...I would know this first hand.
Back to your ad inquiry...Stay away from the one that has the CAI, the monster tach w/shift light and the Sparcos. Trust me. The second one is better off, but buying a Phoenix Yellow Type-R is like taking out an "Theft Wanted" ad in your local paper. Until the 2001 models, they were not equipped with immobilizer keys. This makes them easy to steal and a killer to insure. If you're going to buy a 2000 or 2001 model, get it in black.

I currently own a '00 FBP Type R and its by far the most exhilarating car I've driven and owned! I've driven everything from Sti's to Supra's and I'll tell you this; a properly balanced car owns straight line power! My car doesn't have much horsepower compared to todays sushi sleds, but it can handle like a champ and on top of that it has the visceral feel that many porsche and ferrari owners crave. There is NO car in its price range that made me feel so connected to the car than the R; except for maybe an EVO, but that's a sedan with balls and turbo lag! I say drive one and you'll understand! I would say the ONLY drawback on the car is that its FWD, but other than that; its perfect! This car definitely holds its value and takes countless beatings! I would recommend it to ANYONE!

most i'd give is 18 grand and that baby better mint condition. and low miles. the car is still 4 years old if you get the last year ('01 model year) so paying over 20 grand for a car that hardly went down in value in 4 years that has been driven the last 4 years is silly to me. but on the good side the mods out there for the type R is INSANE

i've yet to see an ITR for sale lately for anything under 19K
and by that, i mean an unmolested relatively low mileage example

You have to drive one to truly appreciate it.

nah, it's more in the industrial area, but some of the thugs bring out some tight shit and act like idiots as well
and on occasion we'll get the lowrider crews out. There have been more then a few shootings, but that happens at all our street race spots.

Yeh, don't mess with these cars. One guy with a Integra Type R was clocked doing 120 Km/H over the posted 100Km/H on HWY 7 North of Toronto. I'd loved to see the cops reaction to that.
