Insurance question on aftermarket wheels

Looking into insuring my Volks which I would insure for at least $3000 w/ tires.
Spoke to my insurance agent and either adding to existing policy or opening a new policy, all they can cover is $1000 in value for aftermarket parts.

Does this sound right? Why can't I insure for the full value? So my wheels get jacked and all I can claim is 1/3 of the purchase price?

Yep, that's how it is. My insurance agency goes up to $5000 in aftermarket parts cost and that's it.

^I'd be happy with $5000 since my insured valued would be around $3000, but $1000?! That seems very low.

I should have mentioned this in my last post. My insurance doesn't cover aftermarket wheels and tires whatsoever. Even if I put a set of $7000 DPEs on my car, they would only reimburse me for a set of stock wheels. They claim that aftermarket wheels are at "higher-risk" to be stolen.

People who wish to insure higher priced items know they should be able to afford insurance hence paying a higher premium. High risk or not, these companies should charge a higher than norm premium and call it a day. Oh well, in a perfect world right? LOL

I thought you could get an aftermarket part rider. It covers what you put on it for whatever value you assign it (with proof, of course). Your premium is then based on the coverage, as with any insurance.

I am not sure what procedure is but I am in the in the same boat with my ISS Forged wheels I need to get them insured. Never dealt with it with the TSX cause the TSX is insured as a $value.

Aftermarket parts MINUS wheels is how my coverage is. Anything aftermarket that I've bought for my car, as long as I can prove ownership, will be reimbursed for in case of theft or damage.

It's insurance; someone will sell you a policy to cover anything.

It appears my Allstate agent is the same way.

Aftermarket part coverage varies from company to company, some will insure aftermarket parts for a limited amount, some won't insure them at all and will only insure certain types of aftermarket parts like stereo/audio equipment. There are even some companies that won't insure aftermarket parts at all unless your purchased the vehicle new with those parts on them at the time you rolled off the dealership lot.
