Insurance
I was wondering...with all the mods that people put into cars, cosmetic and performance oriented, does that affect the insurance rates of your car? I would think it does but ive never actually heard anything about it. thanks. i was considering mods later on in life and was curious

just wondering how old are you?
anyway, regarding your question.
Mods on your car don't affect your insurance, unless you do something stupid like add nos to your car, race and get in an accident. I have heard of some insurance companies checking if you mod your car and if you do they won't insure it.
It is possible to insure some mods as well. That doesn't come without a hike in your insurance costs to cover them though. People get their insurance companies to cover body kits, rims, stereo systems and other things.
However, if you don't go this route and have insurance cover your mods, if you're in an accident, they'll only return your car to the original manufacturers condition. But if you do heavy modification that requires a lot of work to return it to stock configuration, your insurance may not cover you as well.
It's really up to your insurance company. They're all different. You should talk to them, or find out from people that are with them that are in the same position as you.

That was uncalled for...
Ive got a sticker in my engine bay that says "SHO" , technically (like real technical) that is supposed to raise the insurance because it is promoting racing (I know, How screwed up is that?!)
And thats not bullshit, its from my fathers insurance agent who saw my car and told me...luckily hes not anal and just lets shit like that go...

Let me help you!
I think depending on the mods, the insurance company might want to put the car into a new classification (high performance, or something like that).
If you have receipts for certain stuff, like the stereo, the repair shop will try to replace the stuff you lost. I got a generic intake back for my accord, as well as a new head unit and pager alarm.
Insurance rates won't go up usually, but only expect your car to be returned to stock. Some people get the insurance company to send them the check directly, and they use that to buy aftermarket parts instead of OEM parts
