Instead of a Vette or an Elise... went with this...

We have a bunch of stuff going on so I decided to hold off on a full blown toy for now.
That said, I still wanted something. My wife's Jeep is fun... but that's her toy. Wanted something open air and a little lower to the ground then our Jeep and FJ... yet still different. Being that one of the things we have going on is a beach property... I came up with an idea and executed it. I figured a dune buggy/sand rail would be fun! Below are some pics (mix of seller photos and a couple of mine). I'll be doing some little things to it over the fall and winter... but so far this thing has been a blast. Some quick specs: - 1841cc engine, balanced - Lightened crank - 110 cam - Racing headers - Dual Dellorto Carbs I'll update the thread as I do stuff to it. It was in great condition but had been sitting a bit... so cleaning it up to move it up to excellent condition. Little things like repainting some spots by the pedals, new carpet in the cockpit, etc. Then I'll be upgrading some thing like the lights (upgrading to LED), adding a stereo... and so on. I think the misses may regret building such a large garage now that we have 4 vehicles and my racing trailer in there :chuckle: Anyway... onto the pics: |
That is pretty neat. You should bring it to cars and coffee if it is street legal.
Yes you need a bigger garage now :tomato: |
Hope to have it ready to go for October. If not, definitely November.
It is street legal. Titled as a '69 VW. I'm having issues with the lights. Brake lights not working and only the right turn signals flash. Ordered a new switch earlier in the week. Once that comes and I have everything sorted out I'll register it and start on the upgrades. |

That is awesome. Not sure if I will be around yet for Oct but should be for Nov.

Very cool...looks like a lot of fun!
Very nice. Sounds like a lot of fun.
Nice! Really like the FJ too.
Can never go wrong with one of those for a toy! Great pick up
Cool! Love those things.
Sweet buggy! Funny I never thought about them much until I started watching Pawn Stars. They buy them occasionally on the show.
^ Do they? That's pretty cool.
I have seen a few around, then started doing research on them. Fairly simple setup, but a lot of fun. Funny enough the weekend after I bought it we went away, and while trying to fall asleep at the hotel I caught an episode of Lizard Lick Towing (think that's what it's called). They're in NC and went to the ocean to repossess one. As they're trying to get it I'm busy checking out the different features, how the lights are wired, etc. Pretty funny. |
Nice pick up. We need some vids.
Congrats on the Buggy, would love to see more pics/vids.
Once I get it on the road I'll strap the GoPro on. Rollbar mount should be perfect :)
That looks like more fun than both of the other options!
That is awesome, congrats.
That is badass. I can tell you that riding in one of those is like nothing else, I can't imagine actually driving it. Get ready for a shitload of sand in your face, it's great! :teef:
Looks fun! Congrats on the pickup.
That thing screams FUN!
Junior, congrats! Do u use the wrangler or fj as daily drivers? How comfortable is the wrangler for daily use?
Awesome!!!
I should be in town for the October C&C :toocool: |

The Wrangler is lifted ~4" plus has the larger tires. It's not awful for commuting and it has been done... but it's not ideal. I think with a 2"-3" lift it would have better road manners. We have driven it to the beach and mountains, but it's not a cruise. It's two hands on the wheel to be ready for bumps, road variations, wind, etc. If it was a 4-door it would be more stable, but a small wheelbase combined with a high center of gravity removes any cruising possibilities. That said... we love it :D |

Also, new tail lights arrived yesterday. These will be much nicer (and brighter) then the old trailer lights on there...
That's definitely a unique purchase! Good luck with it...
Congrats!
That's awesome. Looks like a lot of fun.
^ Thanks all!

Sweet! Looks like a lot of fun!
Go-kart and now this in the garage :) sounds like a garage I'd love to have! Make a ltl autocross circuit on the beach when you get the place there! |
Thanks guys!
Still haven't had a chance to work on it much. I got it cleaned up, polished the chrome a bit, repainted a few sections, and ripped up the carpet. Will be putting new carpet down next weekend. I also got the new signal switch so I'm hoping to be able to rewire all of the lights next weekend as well. Once that's done I can get that puppy on the road. I've taken it around our neighborhood a few times since the roads are private. Seems pretty cool and super easy to drive, so looking forward to registering it and doing some trips before it gets cold :D |
very cool. im sure you will enjoy it a lot.
