At least some useful info I got out of this thread. Basically file a hit and run report and then call your insurance to see about pursuing the other guy.

Of course problem with parking lot dents is that it's gonna be hard as hell to prove that the car next to you caused the damage. It could very well be that there have been 2-3 cars parked next to you and then unlucky person who's next to you at the time of damage discovery is gonna get him.

Such is life. Maybe try to park as far away as possible.

But yeah don't ever go damaging other peoples cars...that's just idiotic action.

^ I didn't know it could be considered a hit and run. It does makes sense; they did leave the scene technically.

But one thing I will give the OP is that I too get annoyed when I park way out of the way and somebody comes and parks right next to my car... out of 100 empty spaces, they want the one right next to mine. Happens most of the time I go to the grocery store. Definitely don't want some inbred setting their grocery bags on my car while they fish around their pockets for car keys.

Sadly, OP, you're driving what I assume to be is a DD vehicle. DD vehicles get fucked up. It's inevitable. Whether it's someone else, or salt and rust, or rock chips, or hail, or a tree branch crashing down, or whatever else, shit happens.

Just be happy it's an easily repairable dent. If it's your pride and joy, don't leave it unattended. Chalk it up as a lesson learnt.

Unfortunately, when it comes to parking, the majority of people are like Two Cheerios in a bowl of milk. They are automatically attracted to one another, even if there is a vast wasteland of empty parking spaces around. Rarely is there such a thing as "safe parking"

Can someone please explain paint-less dent repair to this clown? I would try, but I'm not sure I have the incapacity to explain it to him on his level.

I'm pretty sure his paint is damaged..

It's also not trial to repair creased areas.

If I park close to the building I get dents like OP, if I park further away people back into my car...

Sometimes I understand some of those "Asshole parking" photos. They're just taking proper precaution

LOL It is a lose lose lose situation.

Park far away, damaged bumper.
Park close, damaged doors.
Park like an ass, damaged reputation.

I tend to search for spots that have a curb on one side and reversing in with the guidelines riding the curb. I'll be about an inch from the curb and 3 feet away from the next car.

^Not to mention if you park like an asshole, people think you're having an identity crisis.

Jeez, kinda harsh guys? I mean, advising to key somebody's car is not cool but I understand OP's pain. Why should we just have to chalk an incident like this up to "well, shit happens"? Unfortunately these things do happen and we typically don't get satisfaction either way. Think about it, so you key their car. How does that fix your door ding? At any rate, my condolences OP...

I have a much better solution that doesn't stoop to the level of "Crazy Ex-Girl."

Next time someone does you wrong like this go to the nearest park and find some fresh dog shit. Use a glove or thick napkin to bring it back to the scene of the crime. Pack the fresh doggie-doo-doo under the driver door handle.

Trust me, this stinky gag will make you forget all about that door ding.

Note: This works best with the older style door handles such as the Toyota Camry pictured below. It is difficult to hide poop on a newer style door handle, such as yours, but you can still smear the smelly stuff on the other side where one would grab hold of it.

The best advicenter came from a source I didn't expect.
But it's true.
Take pictures of their plate. Take pictures of your damage, their damage, parking spots, etc.
Then file a hit and run. Yes the car is there but the owners have left. Then let insurance handle going after them.

OR better yet, file off their tags off their license plate or whatever.

OR remove their wiper blades!

OR put a gay pride sticker on their bumper! Maybe if you want you can remove it and leave a bunch of shit residue! fuck them!

Put some Thermite on their hood light it and leave. haha It will stop them from driving anywhere. hahaha

Park far from the door.

Or call your insurance agent on the spot and ask what to do. Cops don't care any more.
