Ideas for commuter car

Im looking for a commuter car to drive to and from work. Something under $10,000, gets 25+ mpg. Give me any options of a car I could go with, thanks!

Gotta go used. Corolla, Civic, Accent, Elantra etc...

If you're lucky enough to find a used one already: Fit, Yaris, Versa etc...

Acura CL 2.2 or 2.3:

I'm using my 2.2 as my commuter car. Over 135K trouble free miles (I've owned it since it ad 2,000 miles on it). It's smooth, comfortable, looks good and gets 27 mpg.

That would be a alright, iv got an 03 cls so a 1st/2nd gen would be kinda cool.
Iv been looking on autotrader for them in my area but its hard to find one with the mileage and price i need.

Iv been looking at the late 90's prelude as well, any opinions on this car?

The automatic tranny's on those are made of glass like the 2nd Gen CL's right ??

I've seen some cheap (and not so cheap) 1G CL's, but my neice doesn't want a stick...

Once you get down to under 3500, the mileage is usually over 150K.... I did see one that I liked for $1750 w/ 187k miles... I told my neice that they're just getting broken in at that point

I don't know if the tranny in the 2.2-3 is the same as the tranny in the V6's. I do know mine is still on it's first transmission with no problems (knock on wood). My car hasn't been babied either.

148k here.

.....mileage on the stock motor is a moot point for my son as he is already planning to swap in a B18C and then boost it (Hondata tuning and all). Seems like my new AV6 is going to have short tenure as the quickest Honda in the household.

Hinshaws gave you a Rio? That is so odd, whenever I took my car there I got a TSX or a TL...

I actually picked up an 07 (as opposed to the 06: same car as far as I am concerned) and I am going to wait until I take some pics of the Accord before I post that thread. ....trying to avoid " " responses.

Yeah I guess you don't get the "loaner car" unless you are 25+ years old

You can get an EP3 (2002-2005 Civic Si) cheap since most people don't really like the looks, but they react decently to bolt-ons and get high 20's MPG to 30+ MPG, and low mileage for less than 10k.

At 1.61 km/mile, that's a lot of miles.

But, uhmmm, you could just lease something new, but small? Yaris msp starts at $11,150, and while I doubt you can find a stripped version, you can build one on-line, without haggling 1st year @ $3800, 2nd year add another $2800, with total 3 year cost of about $10,000. That's 45,000 trouble-free miles, or for 36,000 miles you could add air.

I agree. Can't go wrong with a Civic. Plus you get some utility with the hatchback.

If you want a bigger car with ok gas mileage the old 00-01 Maxima's with the 3.0 weren't too bad on gas and are good commuter cars. On the highway you can get around 30mpg, city about 22mpg. Decently quick if you get it in 5spd too. Low mileage 95-99 are also very reliable ones.

I just did a quick search and found that car listed for sale. It isn't my car, I have a 2004 S/C'd Acura TL.
My commuter is a 1990 Toyota with 255k miles
