Is a used M3 sedan a viable option, Scribby? That's another possibility.

I suppose, but it would likely be a budget breaker...

Well, it was more a fanboi question than anything.

Personally, given the weather in Chicago, I would not be going around in an M3 esp. with the winters...even with snow tires. But, I think a few of the M3 owners on AZ have done just fine in theirs all year. So...

The traction you get with AWD is IMO, a definite asset. So, I would immediately have that as a requirement in your car search.

Given the ballpark you are looking at, my vote still stands at the allroad. Option 1B should be given to the 3er wagon.

If you are test-driving, also give the Volvo S60 T6 AWD a whirl. I'm a fan of the look and reviews are favorable. I'd be keen to hear what you think.

The V60 T5 is actually a better engine and better value.

How is that any better in the snow than his current BMW? That was the reason for the new car purchase, right?

Read my response afterwards, STEVE.

I mean, if Scribby is complaining about driving experience with the weather from Chicago, he's pretty much in the same boat as me when I considered buying a new car...and the C63 AMG was heavily thought about but, the thought of me wrapping myself around a lamp-post during a snowstorm deterred me.

How is the "tech" in the newer Volvos? Their multi-media interface always seemed second or third rate compared to BMW/Audi and hell, even Ford or Chrysler.

FWIW, this review has the tech gadgetry rated as "better than most": http://www.wheels.ca/car-reviews/rev...vo-s60-t6-awd/

FYI it's a $1,500 option on the Audi allroad to paint all the plastic. It has to be black, white or silver though.

I had an A4 quattro and I had a ton of problems with it, but ask me if I wouldn't get another one. I certainly would if I could afford it new and my wife would let me.

Edit: My wife wouldn't want me to get another one because Audi North Austin is terrible, not the car, really.

What year?

I bought my 2010 A4 Avant brand new and have been loving for 5 years now. Zero maintenance. Oil consumption issue was one time fix as it is for all other 2009-2011 A4s.

I'm a regular over at Audizine as well. I know how the reliability is for +B8. It's great.

It had a lot of problems for previous generations. That's not a news.

It's been about ten months so far and zero issues with our Allroad. Definitely very reliable so far. Driven down to Florida and back several times as well.

Asking this to car enthusiasts is like asking Jon Pinette if he wants to go back to the buffet for another plate. Oh wait he's dead

I think sport and Msport have the same suspension though.. so no difference between the two.

You telling me that you do not see a lot of Hyundai cars around by you?! I seen many! People tend to buy good cars which is why they are all over the place.

Lots of Hyundai's but I've literally seen one RSpec sedan and <10 Non-RSpec sedans around here. I drive by the local dealer all the time and he maybe has one or two new sedans on the lot at any time.

End thread derail.

M Sport or bust! There is no difference in suspension between the two. If you're getting a 3 Series xDrive, there is no difference in suspension between base/Luxury/Sport/M Sport.

This morning, I'm leaning towards a M Sport X1 35i, which I don't see very many of... So outside of the roundel, the model, I'll be in the minority.

Give me a couple of hours... I'm sure I'll be changing my mind.

On the 3 series, it specifically calls out sports suspension on the Sports package, makes no mention of it on M Sport. For the X1, it's the opposite. No mention of it on the Sports package, gets called out on M Sport.

My wife's coworker has a X1. Maybe it's because it's a regular X1, but it surely wasn't pretty at all.

Go for something else!

You need to carefully read the order guide. For RWD 3 series, you get 10mm lowered sport suspension if you get Sport/M Sport. For xDrive 3 series, you get the same suspension for all trims. If you want a sporty ride with xDrive, you need to order Dynamic Handling Package. I'm not sure how it is with X1.

just FYI. for ALL X drive cars, it does not matter if you have M sport package or not, you do NOT get the RWD M suspension. You get the 4x4 look, M sport or not.

if you can live with N20 coming from N54 (i know i can't)

Then 428GC might not be a bad choice.

Please don't get 328GT.. Please.....i put it in the same category as 4G TL.
