very interesting...sounds great for BMW owners...we Acura owners can do something similar...we could fly out to Japan and pick up the Japanese parts for our trannies and put em in a duffle bag for our trip back to the states

i wonder if u can go to Marysville and pick up your car right off the assembly line...hey anyone ever been to Marysville??? is it in the stix somewhere??

My dad did that way back in 1984 on his 533i. He said that it was great. He only paid 23K and retail was around 31.5K. What a great deal. He drove it down to the Cann film festival, supposedly getting it near the top speed of 130 I want to do this someday.

slow. heh

you gotta remember that 90% of the cars on there are little put-put things or big nasty diesel trucks.

awhile ago I was watching a vidoe made by this guy and his wife who picked up their new 540 through the Euro Delivery program...

He took a video of them flying down the autobahn... he was doing a hundred something and all the cars they passed were putzing along kickin up smog

anyway, if your gonna bother with the Euro delievery you may as well completely customize your bimmer from the factory.

They also have delivery programs at the Spartanburg, SC facility. We had planned to pick up the X5 there but that added like 3 months to the wait time.

you go that all wrong, i went to germany this summer, and rented a mercedes E200 (not exactly a power horse.) The autobahn is split into 3 lanes, right land-under 100kph, center 100-130kph, and it is illegal to travel in the left lane unless passing (people in the left lane are usallu doing 150kph+++) Average speed on the autobahn for trucks was 90kph. 150kph=93, 100kph=62. One day we were doing about 140, and we got out doors blown off by a gorgeous Porche, it was doing atleast 200.

:'( I want an Autobahn and want to be beaten by a Porsche too! Just to see how fast that puppy goes!

Are the Porsches' there faster in terms of specs than the US spec Porsches?

The Autobahn is everywhere in Germany. It used to be one road, but now the majority of the roads between cities are Autobahn.

When I was travelling Europe (summer of 2000), I rented a VW Golf Station Wagon. I had that thing at max speed (about 210kph) as often as I could in Germany.

There are issues with Euro Delivery too. I looked into this because I was going to get an 02 330ci before I decided on the CL.

For one, if something happens to the car on the way from germany, TOO BAD. It was your car. If they drop a cargo container then they have to fix it but you don't get a new car because you took delivery in germany.

Even though I know you have been here for some time now and do contribute some useful information, just to be a dick I'm going to ask this question--

Why do you think we all give a crap about all of your BMW news?

I don't know--maybe I'm the only one that feels this way but I can't remember the last time you posted anything not having to do with BMW. When I want info. on BMWs I read a car magazine. When I want information on an Acura CL I come here and occasionally I find it.

So after you get your new bimmer, you can fly down german roads at 100+ mph BEFORE YOU BREAK IT IN? What a great idea.

Do they put in a US spedometer?

I like hearing about BMW info.. for some of us it is intersting.. Also the name of this topic is CAR TALK. BMW is a Car.. Acura is a car.. that euro pick sounds cool..

you are ordering a car that is exactly what you would get here, speedo included.
i did this in 1979(some of you weren't born yet). it was the single best experience of my life. it was a 320i and i drove it 5000 miles in 3 months during the summer. the only prob was it was a 4 speed and maxed out at 107mph. everything blew my doors off. the good thing was i could go at that speed all day.
if you are going to buy a high line european car, this is the only way to do it. the savings will offset a one week trip. some cos. will even pay for hotel accomodations.
i plan on doing this in 6 years when my kids finish college.
lol

I have driven on the Autobahn in a rental Opel wagon loaded down with luggage and people. The driving experience is completely different than the US. We got the 1.6L wagon up to about 110mph, it stuggled hard getting there. Yes passing on the left only. Sometimes cars going very fast would approch another car in the left lane passing at a slower speed. I remember a BMW 5 series flying past and getting hard on the binders for another car. The sound of that car passing was incredible. Usually I let others hear that, not the other way around

I've vaguly heard of Delivery from Germany, but am a curious for future reference because i'm probably, at least for another 5 years content with my Silver S. I got my CL-S last July for 29K for anything within that price range for BMW was a 323 or 325 now which i really didn't care for. As far as price difference 10% would equate to about a 4k off of a say 40K MSRP 330ci. Wouldn't you in theory be able to nego. 2-3K off of MSRP in the states anyways? The experience is awesome to say the least, and the only risk so far is damage if any done during delivery/transport to the states right?

but the only differnce would be the experience... or is the discount really more significant than what i've stated?

I was over there (and Austria) in March. We rented some C-class Mercedes and I had it up to 240kmh (just under 150mph) for a short period on the A5 outside of Frankfurt. We were flying by most people but I was astounded that there were a couple cars cruising right along with us in the fast lane. What my friend and I didn't realize is that there *are* speed limits on the autobahn once you get near cities. (Yes, locals we talked to later called us stupid for not realizing this.) They have stationary photo radar boxes once you get near cities and we were flashed by one but we never got the ticket. We rented another Mercedes, a smaller E-class car, and it wasn't nearly as fast but still a very fun car. After that trip, I would've bought a used Mercedes if I didn't already have the CL. My friend and I were both extremely impressed with them.

If anybody is thinking of European delivery of a car, I would highly recommend it (even though I wasn’t picking up a car on this trip). The savings will pay for your trip since most BMW dealers don't negotiate down much from MSRP.

As somebody mentioned above, there are three main lanes on the autobahn, separated by speed. Here's a very bad photo that shows a bit of what it's like:

I have to agree with you, you are a dick

Also, people like you make me want to say to this board and leave, but then I realize that your just one of a handful of people who have too much pride in your Acura and think you are a 'backup' for Adam (soopa). So with that said, if you don't like the BMW news, ignore it Simple. I hope I didn't take up too much of your time with a 'non-acura' thread.

M3 and M5 are available, M coupe and M roadster are not because they're built in South Carolina. I've got a friend in the BMWCCA who is picking up a new E46 M3 in Munich next summer, and then driving to the Nurburgring for the CCA's annual Track Week there. I'm jealous, to say the least...

The M3 may be available through this program. Here's a quote from their site that at least doesn't exclude it:

"Place your order through an authorized BMW center. Note: Z3, X5, M coupe, and M roadster models are not eligible for the European Delivery Program because BMW builds these vehicles at its Spartanburg, SC, plant."

I agree with the other members defending M5 Lite, he brings good info to this site. I enjoy hearing about BMWs and other great cars as much as I do hearing about Acuras. Just skip over these posts if you don't like them.

Here are answers to a couple other questions posed above in this thread:

What if I have an accident while in Europe?
-One of Germany's largest insurance companies provides coverage in Europe for BMWs sold under the European Delivery Program. Complete insurance information will be provided to you at the time of your car's delivery. Contact the insurance company immediately in the event of an accident.

What if my car is damaged in shipment from Europe to the United States?
-The purchase price of cars in the European Delivery Program includes all transportation and marine insurance. BMW authorizes its retail centers to make any necessary repairs.

BMW Lakes Tour

I've stayed at the Principe de Savoia and Villa D'Este in Italy and I can tell you, those two places would surely get my vote include in my euro delivery of a new M3 w/ SMG!! Hell, I'd take the tour w/o the car! So, check out the Lakes Tour under euro delivery options for shits and giggles.
