I think I got a photo speeding ticket.....

I was driving last night and there was one of those speed indicators on a pole....and I was about 7 over, then the mph flashed, then I swear I saw a camera flash!

So does this mean I'll get a fine? They can't count it on your driving record....what if you're not driving your car?

I''ve had experience with cameras, but never at one of those speed indicators.

But if you definitely saw a flash, then yes, you'll get a fine sent to the address the license plate is registered under.

Dude I had the same thing happen. There was a limit of 35MPH and it read 39, than It read 40 right as I was about to pass it and I noticed it go red, followed by what seemed to be a camera flash... Never got anything in the mail, this was over 2 months ago.

I'm pretty sure those speed indicators are just to slow people down...

Maybe the strobe was a "scare effect," or maybe I warped into another dimension and my real family has no idea where I am and one day I will have a showdown with my twin(who probably turned evil because I took his place at my house).

Slow you down? Used to be one between Phoenix and Tuscon mounted on a overpass. Problem was it would only register two digits, so you cold not get it to read higher than 99.

Virginia used Red Light camera for a couple of years. In 05 the General Assembly voted not to use them again. There still standing but haven't been working since Jan 1 2006.

If they had these things when I was a teenager, I would probably take at bat to them.

I'm gonna have to look at how many place holders there are on these things the next time I go by one...

i've never seens a semi-permanent speed camera, they've always been mobile units. you won't see a speed camera in an intersection.

Yep

Ive only seen permanent cameras for red light runners. Also, the only speed cameras I see are in vans. And i believe that none of these should go against your record or points against your license.

I'm glad that type of ticket is illegal in FL. Here in FL a live person has to give you a ticket. They've tried to implement things like that before, but they've never been successful.

They even tried giving people tickets based on the tolls paid on the turnpike. That got thrown out too.

She was going 61 in a 45 and it was 50 bucks but no record.

You actually should floor it when you pass one of those.

The speed readers are put in as part of a required traffic survey that the municipality have to do periodically to rate the roads for a certain speed limit below basic the speed laws.

The issue is something like this:
The city/state/etc has to 'prove' that a certain MPH is appropriate for a specific road that is set below the MPH of what the road is otherwise set for at default.
They get surveys in this manner to prove their point. The problem is that they post the speed limit on top of the radar display -- hence people slow down to or below the number, thus proving the city's point.

If everyone would speed thorough these then the city would potentially be required to raise the speed limit on that given road because the overall survey would be higher the the speed limit on the sign.

I read this once in a booklet about how to beat a speeding ticket -- there was something about using these surveys to challenge the courts interpretation of what an appropriate speed limit should be.

Synth, here's my courtroom defense for you, should you have taken it...

7:27:59 AM - Photo 1

In the first pic, obviously you were completely stopped and patiently waiting at the red light. Your lit brake lamps and well-defined wheel spokes (which mean they weren't in motion) are enough evidence to prove the first photo shows you are innocent my man! Hi-five! You were surely smart enough not to venture into an unprotected intersection well after the light burned red. The white Ford Econoline, on the other hand, must of had a party to cater for, for which he was running late. And so he was caught in the act.

7:28:00 AM - Photo 2

We proceed to throw out photo number two as evidence... Suddenly the light then went green for 5/10th's of a second, just legally green enough for you to accelerate from a dead stop to be at the position in the second photo. Here is where the judge will object and say "That's impossible!" I'll counter and coyly introduce him to the words "forced induction." Once he realizes you, my friend, possess over 450+ ft/lbs of torque, the judge will embarrasingly recant his rude interruption. I will scoldly remind the judge he will be in contempt of court for anymore unfounded outbursts. He apologizes, and the case continues... So the traffic light immediately went red again and the camera snapped a shot.

Time undetermined - Photo 3

This photo is useless for prosecution. By taking into account the available visual evidence thus far, the previous two photos, the system's got nothing on you bro! You're a law abiding citizen in the first shot while the late caterer is clearly busted. The second photo shows you are clear of the intersection and the light just turned red.

Here's my closing argument...

"So, your honor, the evidence will prove to you that my client, Synth, who is a responsible Mega Moderator of car forum AZ, which, I might add, entails being a true safety-conscious role model for all the new AZ recruits, and who alone invests a comparable small fortune 500 company annual budget into his coveted ride, and, as a result, would think twice about putting that investment at risk, could in no way have run the red light and subsequently should have all charges imposed on him dropped in light of the fact that the license plate shot was intended for the white cargo van."

Oh, and my fee would have been $90.00 plus the cash value worth in not getting any points on your record.

If it happened in Massachusetts, such tickets are illegal. Every few years someone tries to institute "no-fix" tickets, but the law says a traffic citation must be issued immediately after a police officer witnesses the violation, must be issued by the officer who observed it and must be handed by that officer to the violator at that time. Massachusetts judges and magistrates routinely throw out "no-fix" tickets.
