I test drove an S6

A local dealership had a 95 S6 sitting on their lot so i stopped by to test it out. It needed gas before we went any where so the salesman drove it to the station across the street and proceeded to put 89 octane into it . He then let me take the wheel.

All i can say is that car is brutally fast. Turbo 5 cyl, 5 speed. It had a electronically lockable rear diff, that also disabled the ABS at the same time. There was no such thing as turbo lag while driving it, push the gas at any rpm and warp speed is only seconds away.

But for such a large engine, it had very short gearing. At 80 it was sitting at exactly 3500 rpm. It had 70k miles on it and they were asking 17,500.

I would love to upgrade to this car, but I could not imagine this car being to reliable for much longer.

Yeah those cars have a long history of mechanical and electronic failure.

The 20V 5cyl Turbo motor is indestructible. The cars are insanely fast with only a chip and pressure transducer. (25 psi no problem) If you can do work on the car yourself they aren't bad but it can get annoying on a daily driver. They do require some maitainence and TLC but properly cared for they last forever. I got a CL because I was tired of taking care of mine and if I ever have a fun car to play with it will be a 911. They can be had much cheaper than that too although the mileage is pretty good. If you like to work on cars they are fun and the guys on the older Audi sites are great.

yeah, best Audi/VW engine ever for sure...but like said already, wouldn't get that car to be a reliable daily driver. It would be a fun second car if you like working on it yourself.

Here's some more info on the white car. It's badass. I used to be the technical editor of this site before I got the CL.

The RS6 is very sweet but I would rather get my hands on one of these.

This is an Audi RS2. It was made in the mid ninetys. Engineered and assembled by Porsche it had a 315hp 20V 5cyl, reinforced 6 speed, Porsche hubs and brakes and could get to 60 in 4.8 sec. If you install the exhaust manifold, turbo, injectors and MAF from this car along with some software from my friend Bob in Jersey you can make 370 hp with one of the original S6/S4 5cyl turbo cars. Kind of makes the maintanece worth while.

^ That looks nice too. Plus the prospect of 370hp ain't bad either.

But lets just say the RS2 and the RS6 were the same price. You'd pick that over the RS6?

I like the rarity of the RS2 they are very scarce and were never imported. I also like to shift. If the RS6 had a manual it would be really hard to choose. THe RS6 is worth way more but there is something really cool about the old 5cyl cars. BTW that 370 HP can be had on any of the early ('92-'97) S4s and S6s. THey have basically the same engine. My buddy I sold my S4 to just had all that stuff installed. He also had the RS2 6 speed I had installed on the car which I sold him with it. I haven't driven it yet. The 5cyl turbo is very jet like. If I had my choice of Audis though I would probably get an RS4 380hp stock with 6-speed.

that video is sweet......dalback stuff is awesome, pricey, but very nice. They get 400+ whp out of the 1.8T engine. There are now 2 Dahlback distributors near me. I doubt I will ever get anything from them, but I dare to dream. If I had the funds, I would go dahlback over any AUdi/VW tuner...over GIAC, MTM, APR, anyone. There stuff is amazing.
