I test drove the GTO on Saturday
I know there have been several reports already about this car so I won’t go into detail, but let me just say……..
HOLY SHIT THAT SUCKER GOT POWER !!!
It was a bright YELLOW 6-Speed that I drove.
I went over with my friend to do that OnStar contest and we decided to go for a ride. We didn’t win.
He drove first and didn’t really get on it too much.
When I took over I figured I would see what I could get away with because the sales dude was sitting in the back seat.
I absolutely LOVE the rumble of that V8 under the hood.
Even at idle it sounds like it wants to go.
When you get on it in gear it sounds like a NASCAR racer from inside….BEAUTIFUL !!!
I punched it in 2nd gear right after the up shift and the back end easily broke free.
Dropping from 4th to 3rd for torque braking gives you a satisfying “burble” from the pipes.
Granted I love my car, but there’s something truly exhilarating about having 350 ponies under the hood and enough torque available to spin the tires with the RPM’s down so low.
Temped to trade ??? NO, but I was much more impressed then I thought I would be.
If there’s a dealer in you’re area that allows you to take one out for a spin, go for it.
Shawn S
PS….
When I go to test drive the Bimmer 645 in the spring I better leave my wallet, checkbook and bank account numbers at home.
And I’ll also tell the bank to ignore my calls if I request loan/lease information from them.

And I think there is a limit to how much power you can put to the FRONT.
I see a possible “toy car” in the garage in the not too distant future.

GTO is a very impressive car. it will sell like hotcakes, no doubt. i just hope pontiac jazzes up the styling a bit, it looks too bland. but i sure as hell can respect the platform and the power. gotta love it.

I was impressed with the GTO also. Gobs of power at any time.
I for one wouldn't knock anyone who would trade their CL or any car for that matter, for a GTO. There are a few things that made me take a pass on the GTO, like lack of heated seats and a moonroof not too mention loss of money on trade. But for 33K, that car will scream into the 12s and probably lower with just a couple mods.

the GTO is GM's way of saying
"We finally realize that Trans Ams and Camaros didn't sell because most people thought they were ugly as fuck and that only mullet sporting hicks drove them, but the LS1 is one of the best V8s of all time and definitely the drawpoint on any Trans Am or Camaro sale. So why don't we discontinue the Camaro and Trans Am, and just throw the LS1 block back into a coupe and reintroduce the Gran Turismo Otomologato (GTO) with a 'fresh' and 'new' image, free of the F-body's redneck stigma that Acura, Mercedes, BMW, Honda, Porsche, and even Kia drivers have so eagerly attached to the F-body legacy."
looks like a few of you gobbled up the image of the "new" GTO
by the way, fbodies are GORGEOUS!!!! :pfawk:

The dealer said only 5% built will be auto.
Funny side note.
The 6-Speed manual is a 700 dollar option and the auto is FREE.
BUT………The auto has a 1,000 dollar gas-guzzler tax on it.
The manual is rated at 17/29 while the auto is 16/21

Go back and read it again.
As for the 5% bit..... I'm not sure, but that's what he said.

Although the idea of cutting up my roof wouldn't be the most pleasant thought in the world.

That said, I have nothing but dislike for almost all Pontiacs (exc. 89 Turbo TA) BUT I have a lot less hate for the new GTO. However, if I'm in this segment/price I'd go with the SVT Cobra first.
