i need to buy a beater this weekend
hi guys,
i need a beater ASAP!
and i only have 2-3 grand to spend. i don't mind financing it for 6month -1 year for a decent car under 6000.
http://www.fengauto.com/
-they seem to have decent price on some cars i don't mind driving point a to b.
i'm tired of a car shopping because i've had too much car shopping in this winter. so i'm just gonna go to one of those used car places and just shop and bring home a car. i know you guys will probably recommend to buy from a private seller, but man i'm just tired. and i want to buy a car this weekend. if i can't, i have to ride a friggin bike to work.
don't have time during the weekdays, and i'm sick of arranging time and places with private parties. i just sold my wife's 06 civic lx and my 07 civic si to private parties and i'm kinda sick of it. i sold both of our civics so we can put a downpayment on a house. we just financed 08 santa fe SE, so one down one more to go.
well, help me out! just came from a local used car dealer and they had nothing but junks.

i like that 98 civic dx, 97 lude, 95 lude si and that red 00 lude.
but how da hell that 00 lude is only 5 grand? maybe a salvage?
what about that white lude? too ricey? but it's not bad for 5500. no?
well, as long as it drives i don't mind it whatever da hell it is. i prefer manual though.
well, i'm definitely checking them out tomorrow because they have more choices than other used car dealers.

You can finance a car under 6000 for 6 mos/1 year? Not saying you can't but if you can.... then I never knew.
I know you said it, but I wouldn't buy from a used car dealer, they pretty much know nothing about the car's history.... the only worse place to buy a used car from is a new car dealership, e.g. a used Ford from a Honda stealership. At least from a private owner there's better chances that they'll be honest and know a lot about the car itself instead of responses like "that was there when we got it" and "I don't know," "all the other ones I've seen have that too," etc.
I'd rather ride a bike to work (at least its spring) than make payments on a piece of shit that I (regretfully) bought out of impulse. I was in a similar position a year and a half ago, looking at some used Hondas with 2-3 grand to spend. I wanted my very own car instead of sharing an automatic 97 Civic with my mom and sister. I could produce more torque with a torque wrench than that car could.
Ended up buying an very reliable 95 LS sedan from this Mexican dude who buys cars at repo auctions, fixes then sells them. I was lucky, it had a cracked windshield, no intake and really shitty paint but that was about it, ran like a dream. I loved and regretted it all at the same time. Really wished I waited...
And why a Honda beater? I'm sorry but if I buy a beater the last thing I want to worry about is the beater itself. People break into bone stock inside and out, ugly as shit automatic Integras (condition-wise, I love Integras), and you're about to buy just that. Plus its gotta be reliable, who knows with these secondhand car dealers.
To me, a beater is a car that I can park anywhere and not give a shit about it. Shopping cart dings, total loss accidents, doesn't matter. And no fear of theft. That first website has some pretty cheap cars though...

For $2-$3K your going to get a well used high mile no history known car. Face it. Just buy some car that seem to be in good shape & drive it off the lot. Your not going to make out in this. A beater is a beater for a reason. You said it yourself point a to point b.
I think your expecting too much.

Just some quick suggestions. Craigslist is definitely the beater source.

Too bad you are not in the NYC area. I would sell you my son's old 98 Civic EX 5MT 4dr (175k) for $1,800.

thanks guys!
well, i've been to every friggin used car dealers all day. i was little too late to see the auction, but i saw few guys paying half the price on some vehicles and they looked all happy.
anyway, i'm gonna stay away from a dealer because i saw a 04 GTO with 37k miles on it and he said he could drop it down to around 15.5k. and man, i never liked GTO for some reason, but it was noice! gotta stay away from dealers because that's how i randomly bought my civic SI 5 months ago!
looks like i'm gonna rent a car for a week, so i can take time to search craigslist and newspapers and so on.
damn i miss my acura cls..

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
Try ebay motors. There may be some good private deals there.
And as The Dougler says, a little travel may save you some $$$ in the future.

Talk the dude from Feng Automotive down on that 03 Sentra SE-R.http://www.fengauto.com/details.aspx...25702&img=4556
My wife has a base 01 Sentra that has never given us one day of trouble. Hers only has 34k on the clock and has never been revved over 5k rpm as she truly drives like an old lady.

It's not easy finding a clean civic either... lot's of 'em are riced out or just junk...
My brother has me looking around for a 96-00 Civic LX or EX automatic for under 3500 or so...
It would be alot easier locating one if my neice could drive a 5-spd... and she doesn't want green and prefers black
I have found a couple 5spds that I would consider owning
