Update: I got a call from Consumer Affairs again but could not answer it as I was getting my haircut. They left a voicemail that reeked of ass-kissing but nevertheless informed me that a control panel has been located and will be rush-shipped to the dealer. Per the rep, it should be there within one to two business days.

I did, and have been driving Honda/Acura products for 31 years. I have never replaced a brake rotor on any of them. One of my current Honda's has 100K miles and the original rotors and they are still smooth and vibration free.

It's a VERY common issue....rotors warp early and often.

sounds like us-but with a 05 honda civic ex-se we owned-traded it for our 06 tsx. It had one problem after another so when the warranty ran out at 36,000 miles it was time to get rid of it. We traded our 05 hyundai elantra gt with 100,000+problem free miles for a '11 sonata. so far it has been excellent but it only has 13,000 miles. Our tsx still has the original brakes and rotors with life on them with 120,000+miles. IMO you can find lousy cars with every brand of car.

Sorry, I've put over 100K miles on about 6 different Hondas each, and I've never replace a rotor, they have never warped or vibrated.

May I ask which Hondas? Most of them from around early 2000s up have had brake issues. From what I've seen/heard, anyways.

I went through three sets of rotors in my '06 TL within 4 years and 70k. My RSX-S, GS-R all had warped rotors too. My RSX within 15k. Our Fit is close to 30k and no issues yet. *knocks on wood*

I put 145,000 miles on my '04 Santa Fe and never had a lick of trouble with it. It wanted gas, an oil change every 5K or so and it just kept going. That thing was the fricking energizer bunny....I miss it.

My Accord...I mean TL...has warped front rotors to some degree. Not real bad but enough to where I can feel my brake pedal getting jiggy with my foot under hard braking.

The brakes themselves are great though, I must say. Powerful and have never heard a squeak from them, which is nice doing 90% city driving.

I have 154k miles on my TSX...original OEM rotors, second set of pads. I had brake shimmy with OEM pads (it would come and go), but shimmy disappeared when I installed a set of Hawk pads. I didn't have the rotors resurfaced/turned. In my case, the shimmy was due to the pads and not the rotors. I have 54k miles on the Hawk pads and braking is smooth as butter.

In my immediate family there are 4 Honda's (07 Civic, 03 Pilot, 00 Accord, and and 1 Acura (05 TL 6MT), not one has had problems with warped rotors or premature pad wear.

Pad life? The Pilot had it's front pads changed at 85K miles, I was pleased with the OEM pads that I replaced them with the same. The 05 TL? The OEM Ferodo's dust-makers lasted until 50K and I replaced them with aftermarket (can't recall the vendor name at the moment) and the dust reduction has been dramatic. The Pilot now has 180K on original rotors that still have a couple mm of thickness left before they reach the minimum.

The 80's and 90's Honda's and Accord had alot of udnersized rotors which caused alot of warped and faded brakes in Hondas and Acura's. Since the late 90's, the vast majority of Honda's and Acura's have had trouble-free brakes. I'm not saying people haven't replaced rotors, but mis-torquing of lug nuts, getting water on hot rotors, and extreme braking (ie racing) is not a indication of poor brakes.

Recent Honda brakes have been OK, however there are an occasional problem (ie 1G Honda Oddy rear drums were a design problem). The folks that use blank statements that the majority of Honda's have brake problems do not know what they're talking about.

Like I said, it's only from what I've experienced and researched. Brakes seem to be a major complaint of Hondas and Acuras in general, just look at the number of threads on this forum. IIRC, there was even a class-action suit against Honda for premature brake wear (2G TSX owners I think).

I just don't think brakes are Honda's strong suit.

I agree it's not their strong suite, and also it's also based on experience and research. From Consumer Reports, many (most?) older Honda's and Acura's had poor ratings in their annual car guide issue. Last time I looked I see extremely few problems for brakes. It's been slow but I've watched the size of the brakes grow even when in proportion to vehicle weight. The forums are good but I'm more weary of the postings than I am of CR.

Today I know 20-30 Honda/Acura owners (friends or neighbors) and I've helped a handful of them with maintenance. On brakes I've replaced pads but haven't replaced any rotors on a Honda/Acura since the late 90's.

Picked up my car this evening right around 6:00 and so far, the new climate control panel is working great. Despite this, I have still given it the new nickname Charlie Sheen because it acts out, nobody knows why it's acting that way or what's causing it. But seriously....hopefully this is the end of the troubles.

I won't ditch it until I hit the minimum out-of-service days for lemon law because I'll take a huge hit on the resale and won't be able to get into something anywhere near as nice. The way I see it, I'm not going to pay to replace my defective car...Hyundai is. Despite the trouble it's given me, this car has spoiled me rotten...there is nothing out there with this level of equipment, quietness and refinement for the price. I hate to say it but I'm happy to have it back. It is a classical love-hate relationship of the highest order. In fact, it reminds me a lot of my dad's old '93 Saab 9000 Aero. That thing was more trouble than a Yugo built on a Friday before a long weekend but my God did it haul ass........when it worked. The local Saab dealer said it was quicker than any other 9000 Aero they'd ever seen and by a wide margin. But finally, it was not worth fixing and my dad traded it for his '04 TL.

It has been raining pretty much steadily since I picked the car up and the defroster is working flawlessly. Prior to the fix, it would have done the ninja fogging thing at least once in weather like this; humid and wet but as I said, it's working great. I have to thank my dealer for quite literally bending over backwards to get that part....they said they pretty much had to break arms to get one and for that, they have my endless thanks.

On a semi-related note, somebody on FitFreak (where I moonlight as a fan of the car) is having big time troubles with his Accord CrossTour. While I feel sorry for the guy, it makes me feel better about my own situation.
