I hate my beater, what should I buy?
I have an 1988 Old Cutlass...and I HATE it! I love my Cobra, but I only drive it when the weather is nice. I'm really beginning to get sick of the Olds. I could put it in the paper for $3000 becuase it only has 56K miles with AC and all power options. But what could I buy for like $5000?
Jeep Wrangler (they seem to last forever)
Civic (but I can't find one with under 125K miles)
.....and I stumped.

how much do you drive the cutlass to hate it that much? I would think you would be driving the cobra 95% of the time. Unless its pouring down rain, drive it while you got it.

I had a toyota 4x4 that I bought for $800. It needed a motor, but I drove it for 6mos without spending a dollar.
Nick, I would reccomend a toyota 2wd pickup. They are fun to drive (5spd) cheap, good on gas and you can haul stuff.

HA HA! For Only Real Drivers
I only drive it when its nice out. Which ends up being 3, maybe 4 days a week. It doesn't see any liquid except hose water whe I wash it.

I don't think I paid more then $1000 for any car before my last couple, and I've had at least 12-15 cars...
Greenmonster, who has lots of stories about $50 cars (or ones I got for free).

Start poking around autotrader and see what searches for different makes/models turn up. Also check your local craigslist.org 'cause some interesting deals pop up on there from time to time.

chronic lurker...
Pick Up a used integra, and dont care about the mileage.....
As long as the timing belt has been replaced itll run like a champ and its fun to drive.
The only problem I ever had with mine was it got stolen, but it was 180,000 miles old and kicking well.

how about you do a mod or 2 to the beater..... make it kind of exciting to be behind the wheel again...
A beater is just that.. cheap, paid-in-full, ugly transportation....

For 5k, I'd look at Nissan. A comparible Honda will have a ton more miles and be nothing more special, you could probably get a maxima with less miles for the same price as a civic with a 150k miles at $5k. I'd look at the nissan altima, not a very popular car so it means lower price for a better car, has won awards from JD Power for quality for the old gen. Overall its a decent car with nice features and power.

dude, your car is a fun car to drive, when it rains, drive slow... but its by no means is it a show car or an exotic to keep in the garage all the time! enjoy it!

I have a wrangler as a beater and it kicks ass. It is an 87 4.2L with only ~34K miles on it. It sat in a garage most of its life. It is sooo much fun in the summer cruisin around town with no doors and a bikini top. Although it sounds like you are looking for something for the rain and snow. The wrangler is a beast in the snow but be aware a soft top kinda sucks in the rain and it get cold ass in the winter. I would recomend a wrangler but it def. sounds like you should get a hard top for it. Check out Jeepforum.com
