I had it with red light runners

Day after day of seeing these idiot FL drivers blow through solid red lights, witnessing a few accidents, & myself & family almost getting creamed a few times has got me fed up.
Not questionable yellows either. Solid red, green on my side just about to go & these people just fly by. They don't even slow down.
I wrote a letter to my local congressman & asked to look into red light traffic cameras.
I've been driving here a long time & have seen traffic grow & so has this problem. It's REALLY bad.

We'll see if it goes anywhere. I know I can't be the only one to see this.

If any south FL people want to to the same please do.

Yeah it's like that all over the state. Its 10x worse when season rolls around. I have NEVER seen a cop here pull someone over for running a red light.

I've lived in Miami for 11 years. I've seen some bad driving myself out there. I'm not racist as I'm latin, but those freaking latins drive like they're back in South America. (I've been to South America several times)

I can only wish you luck.

I feel what you are saying. I've only been to Florida a couple times in my recent memory, and last time, when I went to Miami, people just go flying through lights and they don't even flinch.

When I was in Miami, I didn't see too many, if any, red light runners. I'm sure they were there (they're everywhere), but I didn't see them. All I saw was people moving well above the speed limit until hampered by traffic. I have to admit, it was very nice to be able to cruise at about 90 and be moving with the flow as opposed to drawing attention and/or constantly getting slowed down by slow drivers.

I wish they'd put cameras in two traffic lights near my house. Once it turns red, it's pretty much guaranteed two cars will turn left on red every time. Too bad they only have the red light cameras in the city right now.

they need cameras AND signs telling people there's a camera there. That should hopefully cut down on the red light runners.

Up here in Jersey they are putting up cameras on the lights. I think its at most intersections. I sometimes see people with notebooks and stop watches sitting at the side observing the intersection.

The other night I was at a light/interection at around 1am. The other light turned red then 3 seconds mine turns green. A white jeep cherokee comes flying through making me have to stop real hard and the jackass has the nerve to lay on his horn at me...

Would have sucked if I had to put up an RIP thread to add to a list of NBP's or any TL's that have been posted up recently.

Although my last ticket was for running a red light, I agree with you. I hate people that run red lights. And I see it on an almost daily basis as well.

For me I was in the middle of the intersection when the light went to yellow, and some idiot heading in the other direction decided to make an illegal U-Turn and then cut into a drive thru. Cop nailed me, I argued my case, he gave me a ticket.

I'm not quite sure what happened here. Are you saying you were looking to make a left turn on green, lights changed and you refused to turn (for safety reasons) because someone made an illegal u-turn. OR, were you going straight and stopped in the middle of the intersection because someone was making an illegal u-turn?

OR was the guy in front of you making an illegal u-turn which hence kept you from going through the light while it was green/yellow?

Anyways, I'd like to share a similar story to yours. I was at a light attempting to make a left turn on a green light (no arrows). The traffic in the other direction kept on going through even in the yellows. I didn't attempt to make the turn in fear of causing an accident. Anyways, this happened for 2 lights in a row. I just couldn't do it in time before the red light again because people were just flying through the yellow. Anyways, long story short a cop came behind me and pulled me over. He stated that by law (in california), I can wait in the middle of the intersection when making a left turn on green (again no arrows at this light), and by law even if the light goes red I'll have the right of way and shouldn't get a ticket. So ever since, I sit my ass in the middle of the intersection. But now I fear if that's against Texas's driving laws.

I know pembroke pines (pines blvd.) has them right off of I-75. But I think thats city by city.

What city do you live in? I know you're in the ft.Lauderdale area or something, right?

Cocoa,

I was heading straight through the light. It's a 10 lane intersection. The light turned yellow when I was in the intersection. A car coming in the other direction made an illegal U-turn. I hit the brake to avoid hitting him. The cop saw me in the intersection when it turned red. I got a ticket.

I am a HUGE fan of the red light cameras, for the same reasons as the OP has stated. Unfortunately, the cities decide to incorporate the speed detection in the camera units, and then my feelings for them go out the window.

Generally speaking Cocoa/Shalooby, if you lawfully ENTER the intersection and then the light turns red, YOU have the right of way and other driver MUST wait for you to clear the intersection before they proceed. This is particularly applicable in the left turn scenario, however, your car must be lawfully in the intersection for this to apply.

The intersection is commonly defined as the intersection of the perpendicular curb lines. Many times the red light cameras will have a red line painted on the pavement, and this line generally gives a four to six foot "grace" zone before tripping the camera.

Florida has nothing on MA/RI around here you can sit at ANY light and you are 100% guarenteed to see someone run the light.

The other day I was in my town and watched a guy run a red light in front of a cop. Cop was the first car at the light and I was right behind. Our light turns green (meaning theirs HAD to be red for a while) and some guy comes flying through the intersection. I thought to myself, "finally there is a cop when you need one". Nope, cop must have been going for coffee because he/she never even flinched.

She has boobs. I do not.

He said there were too many accidents through that intersection and he cannot cut me any slack. I always ask. No harm in asking.

By the way....Post pics of said friend.

He's completely right. From what I remember, you're actually supposed to get out there in the middle to give yourself a chance. If you are at a big intersection and stay back at the line, you don't even have a shot of getting across (like you did for two lights). I hate when people stay at the line.. it happens all the fucking time.

The down side to sitting in the middle of the intersection is that if a fire truck or ambulance get there running code 3, you are definitely in the way...
