The thing that's so wild, so really cool about the CTS-V is the fact that it does all of these wonderful things under the hood with a wedge head, two-valve, pushrod in-the-block cam engine. I love it! Chevy got it right 55 years ago and this and the Z06 are proof of their "cheap" and "simple" design. God love 'em.

As much as I love the E63, I could never justify its premium over a CTS-V.

Oh man, don't get me started, that's another thread. Don't feel bad for me, though! As a (rare) neurologist, someone will pay me.

YEAH. I should have bought a manual to get more power. Darn wife....

Yet another thing that caused me to pull the trigger. These brute force, simple OHV engines are going to have to go away, or become rarer, under the new CAFE laws. I know it has to be done for the environment, so I had to own one before I am forced to drive a hybrid/diesel/electric no-fun-mobile.

Yep. The small block Chevy and Ford (Ford basically copied the Chevy small block), plus the big block Chevy (especially in the 427 CID versions) are just super engines both then and now. What is really amazing is getting all of this glorious power and torque from a small block and it holds up, too.

I admire anything that is good in the car industry so I am not blind to the Nissan VQ engine, our TL engine, or the Ford Duratec engine to name a few. The technology has come a long way in terms of delivering performance along with decent economy and extremely low emissions. They truly are marvels.

The CTS-V stands as a hallmark of really serious hi-performance sedans. Man, talk about having your cake and eating it, too! What a superb machine.

You know.....GM borrowed a Honda engine (J35 IIRC) for the Saturn Vue in the not-too distant past. Maybe GM can return the favor and lend Honda/Acura an LSx engine for a high-po RL or NSX.

Sigh. Too bad that'll never happen.

https://acurazine.com/forums/car-talk-5/ls7-nsx-726866/

I just reread the thread and WTF, how would anyone know about throwing off the balance of the car without actually driving it? That's a shitload of extra weight but knowing the talent and knowledge that the guy had, there's no way he could have just ignored the extra weight and didn't account for it in other areas. and besides the LS7 + Getrag weighed 35 lbs less than the C32B + tranny so that speaks for itself.

and obviously I'm a huge LSx fan... there's such a HUGE aftermarket for them. I can't say this for all engines in general (it would be more like the SBC) but the aftermarket support for the LSx, combined with the reliability and bang-for-your-buck performance factor and the sound, altogether.... you just can't beat it.

Honda will NOT eat that crow. I think the best we can expect in the near future is a J37 stroked to 4.0L maybe w/IMA but .

I need more power to do this:

I this picture, it's my favorite picture of a CTS-V, ever.
I'm going to do that when my rears are worn out enough to require replacement.

Nope, not leasing. Lease terms for the Vs are AWFUL. It was more cost-efficient to put down a large down payment and finance/purchase.

Make sure you wax around the wheel wells before you do that. I still have some tiny black specks of rubber around the fenders from going sideways

Indeed

The V is the new benchmark. However, if they were at the same sticker, I think I'd still be a little biased in favor of the M5.

...can't wait to see if the next gen M5 comes with the boosted V8 or V10. ALSO cant wait to see how far this arms race goes (particularly with MB AMG in the mix).

Meh, I'd take the CTS-V even if they were at the same sticker. The current M5 does nothing for me, that engine is fantastic but the LSA is even more-so. Piano black trim and suede is the optional Recaros would be a must for me.

Honestly the only current BMW that does anything for me styling-wise is the 1-series, 3-series and I suppose the X5, even though I don't like SUVs much. The 5-series just looks too feminine and delicate

I love that pic, as well. Be sure to have a few taken (or a video) when you're able to light 'em up like that

Warranty. GM has been reportedly really harsh about tuning in particular lately.
