I did after all...

About 7 months ago I posted this thread:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=707883&page=2

The thread was about me trading in the Accord EX 4 Cyl. Sedan for a Civic Si. Well I finally decided to go through with the trade, earlier this morning I decided to go to the dealer and see what we could do.

This was also the same dealer which had an employee me tell me I couldn't get my car out of the lease early and purchase another Honda. Well, I went back today, they said they actually could do such a trade, even though the Civic MSRP was $22,000 versus the Accord $25,000. Despite going into a less expensive car and paying $3000 down and the first month payment my payments increased.

Ahh well, I'm pretty happy with the Si. Admittedly, the financial hit sucked ass, paying $400 a mo. for a Civic sucks, but what are you going to do. Life is about enjoying yourself and hopefully I've found that with the Si.

I'll post pics tomorrow morning, the car is a Raylle Red Si Coupe. The stock wheels look awful, but we'll get new ones.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this was my first M/T car ever. I came back from work later this evening and figured I would start learning how to drive the car.

Let me just say after 30 minutes behind the wheel I can say the Si is VERY user friendly. At first I had much trouble starting the car out of first gear, although driving the car throughout the town and highway was no problem, only starts were tough. I literally stalled out the car a few times.

I came back home decided to watch some YouTube videos, and buzz a friend, got some good advice and I am able to get the car rolling without any jerking, I am comfortable shifting throughout most of the gears. Occasionally I shift into fifth instead of third, however after a few more minutes it has gotten better.

I can say I am getting pretty comfortable driving a manual car, my only worry is starting up hills, I had someone behind me, and quite closely might I add on a slightly steep incline and I was able to pull it off. I put the parking brake up so prevent rolling forward. I ended up chirping the tires slightly but I got it through no worries.

So funni... thats exactly how I started driving hills in an MT.... once you have hills down... ypu pretty much have the hardest part down... just remember to always set your park brake when parking on a hill... my 96 civic MT jumped out of gear and rolled into another area of a parking lot... I thought someone had stolen it!!!!

Finance, can't remember how much down.

I had (I think) 10k down on my 2005, totaled it, and my insurance sent me a check that pretty much covered the total costs. I think I ate a couple hundred in depreciation. Probably did 10 or 12K down on the 2006.

So today I did some more driving took a couple pics with my camera phone.

I've got the shift from third to fourth down pretty well, it's just that shifting from 2nd to 3rd is lengthy because I sometimes have trouble finding 3rd gear, but I will get better at it.

So far, I've driven about 100mi, crazy.

Hmmm, bored with the Accord, traded "down" and paying more?

I guess if that is the car you want, then all the best. I just would have let the lease run out first. Or saved the money, because $400 on a Civic?

i was looking hard at Si's but decided they leased poorly compared to what i could get instead. i hope youre happy with it though... i think i would've been happy with one as well

I used to sell cars...and we call this a head ripper.

However, if you like your new car its all that matters. Things in life are worth what someone is willing to pay for them.

The payments aren't as bad as you guys would think. I had gone to the Volvo dealership and tried to do the same thing a few months back, like in January. I was going to trade in for a C30, the payments for the C30 would have been more than the Si.

I like the Si more than the Accord so far, we'll see how it turns out in a couple months. Buyers remorse, I hope not.

But pics are on the way...

Funny thing about this one is it looks like I am towering over the car, when in fact I am only standing up.

@ your shifting issues.

You may be trying to force it too much. Usually the shifter will slide into the next gear w/o you really having to adjust it left/right at all.

The only time shifting experience really plays into it is skipping gears or down shifting. It should feel smooth and natural when going 1-2-3-etc with you not really having to worry about adjusting the shifter left/right.

$400/mo for a Civic?!?!?!?

...and to think all the great cars you could be driving for that amount of coin.

Congrats! You must really love your Civic.

nice car. IMO its nicer looking than the accord sedan. lol. as long as your enjoying it, thats what really matters.

i went from a 2004 TL 6MT, with ASPEC kit, and stock chromies to a 2004 S2000. yup, i lost the bluetooth, heated seats, auto windows (only have the drivesrs in the s2000) and all that good stuff we know it has but, in the end... the smile on my face is biger wiht the s2000.

look, into using the s2000 cone (intake) on the SI, read somewhere it works. and actually enxtends it to the lower front of the grill to act as a CAI. you can pick up a used one for about $60.

Nice Si! Yeah you might be paying $400 a month for a Civic, but it's argueably the best Civic ever made. Plus if you treat it right it will return the favor with years and years of realiable fun. Good luck with it.

last time i checked, it did. If the car's worth 20k and 25k is financed and you wreck it, they cover teh entire 25k.

no gap ins, you are responsible for the other 5k

here is a link that gives some general info

btw it's a great looking car

I know what GAP insurance is. I work very close with the auto loan department here. GAP won't cover negative equity from a previous loan. If you roll over negative equity from a previous loan to a new loan, it won't cover that. It'll only cover the difference between the new loan and the car's value.

:SCREWY:
The claim settlement may not cover the entire Gap due, when your loan's Original Amount Financed exceeds 120% of MSRP (new vehicle)
lets say the vehicle price is 20k, this allows you $4000 that will be covered.
So if you finance 24k, someone would be covered. if they financed 25k, it sounds like they would be in the hole for 1k if the car was totaled.

Maybe i don't understand, but financing over a dozen cars in the past 10 years i think i may have a clue. I purchased gap ins once and didn't have to use it.

Maybe your dealership does things differently than the thousands of others in the US.

Umm the insurance company has no idea what part of your loan was the vehicle amount and which part was negative equity. Gap insurance will cover the full amount of the loan on the car.

I was involved in a fairly intimate conversation with the agent processing my policy, and it was understood that GAP insurance would cover the full loan amount, with no regard to negative equity brought onto the loan from a trade-in.

Yeah thanks, I'm getting pretty comfortable driving the car now. It's getting a bit more fun to drive because of that. I've had the car for about a week now and it's closing in on 450miles, it was purchased with 150'ish.
