I once had a 69 C-10 that was lowered...pulled my dads 18ft ski boat all the way to havasu with it...more than a few times.

Lifting a 2WD truck is pointless. So I would just leave it stock.
The "New-ness" of owning a truck will wear off and you will want to trade it for a car, don't put any money into it
I own a truck, and I actually have a means to have fun with it (Though not often, I have taken it offroading, which is fun, but the rest of the time it pretty much sucks).
